Suspected sockpuppets

This is the LinkedIn profile for a professional writer whose career specialties include "Wikipedia Articles". He is the identified author of this guest blog published last month at Ken Wilber's official website. The blog post outlines a set of priorities for the management of Wikipedia's Ken Wilber biography, its Integral Theory article, and various related pages. An excerpt:

Research that shows that students (from high school to college and even graduate school) often turn to this resource as a first step in research on virtually any topic, even if they know that it cannot usually be cited as a credible source in their papers, because it can point them to credible sources that they can cite for their research. In terms of I-I's current goal of establishing integral studies as more widely accepted in academia, it's hard to think of a better investment of time and energy at this juncture.

Its byline states "Joe Perez (www.joe-perez.com) is a professional writer with an interest in integral theory and owner of Writing Wolf (www.writingwolf.com), an editorial consulting firm that offers services in the area of profile development and online identity management." His rate sheet lists custom quotes for PR with a minimum $1000. [1]

The user page of Joeperez69 is nearly the same biography as the LinkedIn profile: same name, educational institutions, same writing career--except that it fails to disclose Wikipedia article writing as part of that career. Joeperez69 has declared on Wikipedia that www.joe-perez.com is his personal website. [2] The Soxred edit report on Joeperez69 covers nearly the same ground as the guest blog post, with one additional topic: a biography article Joe Perez. [3]

Wikipedia's Joe Perez biography was created on 28 November 2009 by User:Bridgeoflight [4] and shortly afterward tagged by admin Nihonjoe with the comment "reads like a press release". [5] 23 minutes later User:TimZBrooks made its first edit to Wikipedia to the Joe Perez biography with an edit summary saying "Joe's an important figure on the Integral movement". [6] Nearly all of the TimZBrooks account edits have been to the Joe Perez biography and the Integral (spirituality) article. [7] Both Joeperez69 [8] and Goethean [9] have also edited the Joe Perez biography. The Joe Perez biography names Ken Wilber twice and its first reference is a citation to the Integral Institute website, which is a think tank founded by Wilber.

A few hours ago a single purpose account appeared at an ongoing arbitration case to make a hypothetical conflict of interest argument against several parties, without any diffs. [10] The submission used the word swiftboating several times--an unusual term which turns out to be nearly synonymous with "smear campaign". Goethean has made 30 edits to the swiftboating article. [11] The arbitration case and some of Goethean's most heavily edited articles are new age/spiritual movement subjects. Last month Goethean submitted a similarly themed hypothetical conflict of interest complaint against another editor (on a subject related to Ken Wilber and Integral theory). The claim against the other editor was archived without action; an independent editor called the allegation "ludicrous". [12]

The Ken Wilber biography is Goethean's most heavily edited article; Goethean has edited the page over 900 times. [13] Every other editor to that page has fewer than 100 edits. [14] Goethian has also edited Integral (spirituality) 264 times. On 10 December 2009 Joeperez69 responded to a sockpuppet accusation that he and Goethean may be the same person. [15] The two IP addresses self-disclose as Joeperez69 unlogged. [16] [17] Both Goethean and Joeperez69 are frequent posters to Talk:Ken Wilber and Talk:Integral (spirituality) where they post to the same threads agreeing with each other.
