Denelson83

Withdrawn by candidate on 1 July 2005 08:26 (UTC); Final vote: (1/3/5)

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here:
Self nomination. I am, however, a bit doubtful that this will succeed, despite my presence on Wikipedia since September of 2003 and an attributed edit count of over 5000, because of a past request for comment regarding my behaviour on the project, However, I consider it resolved and closed, and hope never to behave like that again. But if you feel I haven't gotten over that yet, you may express yourself accordingly. Also, there is the fact that I do not keep a user page. But if I do become an admin, that may change. Support

  1. Support. He seems to be genuinely over his past indiscretions, has a user page now and has a solid amount of time of contributing to the 'pedia. - Mark 30 June 2005 03:05 (UTC)

Oppose

  1. Oppose If he censors out comments he doesn't agree with on his talk page I can't imagine him having the power to censor out views he doesn't like on mainspaces, not to mention his apparent disregard to Wikipedia:civility. Jtkiefer 09:00, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)
  2. Oppose, as per Jtkiefer. Bluemoose 28 June 2005 09:10 (UTC)
  3. Oppose for reasons above and the lack of a user page. PedanticallySpeaking June 29, 2005 18:04 (UTC)

Neutral

  1. Until you create a user page, a basic tool used for introducing yourself to the community and being an open and engaged member. I will reconsider if a page is created, however brief. Doesn't it feel nice to have a user page now :P? Anyway, the RfC is quite recent considering it seemed pretty unanimous in opposition to Denelson's conduct. I'd like to hear some more views before I vote support or oppose. Harro5 00:35, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)
  2. I'm not prepared to support right now. The mentioned RfC is fairly recent, and the 'solution' of deleting unwanted Talk page messages perhaps isn't the best dispute resolution strategy. Admins must be prepared (within reason) to discuss and explain their actions, and an admitted tendency towards volatility perhaps is not the most desirable admin trait. Denelson83 has demonstrated a much improved attitude recently, and I might be willing to reconsider my position in the future. -- TenOfAllTrades( talk) 05:16, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  3. Administrators should have a user page. Hedley 14:09, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC) The RfC is too recent. My little sight of this user has been positive, but i'm reluctant to support when the RfC was in April. Hedley 22:42, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  4. As a recipient of Denelson83's volatility, I should note that he has recently apologized for his earlier remarks on my talk page. I don't really think that RfC per se should influence this vote. However, it did seem indicative of a general sensitivity to criticism which might be exacerbated by the extra scrutiny to which admins are subjected. +sj + 14:22, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  5. Not comfortable with this individual's attitude (both as expressed by the RfC referred to earlier, and also my personal experience with him on IRC, both of which leave me to question his maturity). Kelly Martin 17:47, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)

  • Responding to Jtkiefer's comment about his concern that I would start censoring whole articles I don't, or rather wouldn't, agree with if I did get admin status, let me just say that performing such a task would be blatantly pointless, simply because there would be just too many of them. Besides, that's being a vandal, not an admin. I would just not read such articles, and move on. Denelson83 09:16, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • FWIW, User:Uncle G also keeps a red userpage. Alphax  τ ε χ 09:36, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Responding to Kelly Martin's comment about my behaviour on #wikipedia, I should just note that the IRC channel is usually, according to my observations, a place where wikipedians can hang out and have a little fun. My behaviour on IRC should not have any influence on my conduct here. Denelson83 21:31, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • Behavior on IRC is an influencing factor in my decision on how to vote on RfAs, whether you think it should be or not. Kelly Martin 21:36, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
      • Respected and accepted. Denelson83 21:49, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. A particular article on my watchlist, Sailor Moon, gets subjected to minor but significant bouts of vandalism. SM is one of my greatest passions, so I hope to keep that article and related articles on the up-and-up. Other than that, I can monitor WP:VIP for vandalism notices, and I can try to take care of the WP:VFD backlog. I can also patrol Recent Changes for any speedy deletion candidates, and instead of tagging them as such, I would be able to just remove them.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I am pretty satisfied with the series I wrote on provincial highways in British Columbia, as well as the work I did on the articles regarding Canadian postal codes, including the tabulation I applied to the individual postal code lists. I also helped set up the Canadian wikiportal and notice board. However, most of the edits that I make are minor, usually with regard to spelling and grammar.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A. The only major conflict I have been involved in is described in the RfC that I link to above. I have fixed that by putting a special "wikimood" template at the top of my user talk page, and if I feel that any messages left on my talk page don't really satisfy me, I will do nothing but either delete the messages, adjust that wikimood accordingly, or both. I will not exercise any admin powers if that wikimood is set at -3 or below. Also, on the RfC, I have expressed that I have an attribute of volatility. I hope that I can keep that in check.
