Portal:French Americans

Portal:French Americans ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Unmaintained portal. Two selected articles and two bios that have not been substantially edited since 2010. Creator has been largely inactive since 2017. Mark Schierbecker ( talk) 05:21, 23 July 2019 (UTC) reply

  • Delete – I concur with the analysis by User:Mark Schierbecker:
      • The portal has 6 average daily pageviews in January and February 2019 (using a short baseline because the portal was renamed in April), as opposed to 216 average daily pageviews for the article.
      • The portal uses the heritage model with copied subpages, which is a failed experiment that has been shown consistently to present obsolete information to the reader that even a reasonably competent editor may not know how to update.
      • The originator created this portal and has edited sporadically since then without maintaining the portal. Creating a portal is fun. Maintaining a portal is work. There is no obligation to edit regularly or to maintain a portal, but there is no obligation for the Wikipedia community to maintain unused portals.
      • The portal has only four articles, and they have not been updated since 2010.
      • If editors wish to enhance the encyclopedia with regard to this topic, they would be better off simply to add links to articles, such as identifying individuals as French Americans.
      • If a future editor wants to re-create a portal on this topic, either with a failed design or with a modern design, they know where Deletion Review is.

  • Delete This portal's subject does not meet the breadth-of subject-area requirements of the WP:POG guideline. UnitedStatesian ( talk) 03:22, 26 July 2019 (UTC) reply
  • Delete per nominator. Yet another abandoned mini-portal with abysmal page views.
WP:POG requires that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". This fails on both counts. -- BrownHairedGirl (talk) • ( contribs) 00:42, 27 July 2019 (UTC) reply
