December 2017 Brisbane meetup

For details of previous meetups please see Wikipedia:Meetup/Brisbane.

Venue/Date

  • When? 12 noon - 4pm (drop in anytime), Sunday 10 December 2017
  • Where? Window bay #6, The Edge, State Library of Queensland, Cultural Precinct, Stanley Place, South Bank, South Brisbane, Queensland

Window Bay #6 is the one more-or-less directly ahead of you as you enter The Edge (there's only one main door). If you can't spot us, ask the friendly staff to direct you (the booking is under Kerry Raymond).

Although The Edge is part of State Library, it is not in the main State Library building but in the adjacent building along the river back towards the Victoria Bridge. See this SLQ map and this Edge map.

The Edge has a kiosk that sells a small selection of sandwiches, muffins and hot/cold drinks at reasonable prices. They don't mind you bringing your own food and/or takeaways from elsewhere. The nearest "elsewhere" is the State Library Cafe and the Qld Museum Cafe. I'll bring some nibbles along for snacking.

The advantages of window bays at The Edge are the fantastic views of the Brisbane River and the Brisbane CBD and that it's free!

There is plenty of public transport available. Take the bus either to the Cultural Centre interchange. Or, just slightly closer, the State Library bus stop. Or take the train to South Brisbane station. Or take the CityCat to Southbank and walk along the river bank.

There is car parking at the Cultural Centre (State Libary, Art Gallery/Museum and QPAC) are closest, $16 per entry. Or slightly further afield is South Bank and Convention Centre parking (both charge for the time you are there). For free parking, try along Montague Road area, but read the parking signs carefully to check if it is free or metered, time limits etc.

See you all there! Kerry ( talk) 21:34, 27 November 2017 (UTC) reply
Parking: Please refer to cheaper parting option: the metered Street Parking near the State Library, from my memory, I paid about $3-$4 for 2 hours - it was enough time for me to cover a lunch meeting over there. [1] Goodtiming8871 ( talk) 03:41, 8 December 2017 (UTC) reply
