Decorative use of the non-free cover art of a song in Einstürzende Neubauten logo which fails WP:NFCC#1, WP:NFCC#8 and WP:NFC#cite_note-3. Non-free cover art is generally OK when used for primary identification purposes in a stand-alone article about the work in question, but it's use in other ways or in other articles tends to be much harder to justify. This file would most likely be OK if used at the top of or in the main infobox of a stand-alone article about the song iself; so, if someone wants to write such an article and add the file to it, then it could be kept; otherwise, there's no sourced critical commentary about the cover itself to provide the context for non-fee use in the article about the symbol to satisfy NFCC#8 and there is already another freely licensed image used for identifying the symbol, which means a non-free is not needed fpr that purpose per NFCC#1. -- -- Marchjuly ( talk) 01:53, 30 August 2019 (UTC) reply

Image is tagged PD-Libya, but source page indicates that the photo comes from Rex Features, so there is no guarantee that this work was first published in Libya. This image is a promotional still from an unreleased film showing the main cast. The image was used in the Cast section of The Fantastic Four (unreleased film) and was recently moved to the Marketing and release plans section. The fair use rationale states its purpose is "Illustration of an example within the article.", which I have no idea what that means. The image fails WP:NFCC#3a since the poster already illustrates the article and there is no critical commentary of the image itself in either section of the article, it does nothing to increase the reader's understanding of the film and its exclusion is not detrimental to the understanding of the film, thereby failing WP:NFCC#8. Aspects ( talk) 23:39, 30 August 2019 (UTC) reply

It is a small part of a larger image, and at low resolution. (It is a cropped and slightly edited version of the cover of Film Threat magazine). It shows the main cast in costume, and gives an impression of the creature effects makeup for this version of the Thing (comics). I think removing it would be substantially detrimental to understanding the film.
It is a great image that significantly improves the article, and in one small image provides great insight into the look of the film (easily compared to the other films ). The real problem is that the poster image used in the infobox is a minimal teaser image that doesn't show any of this (unlike the posters for every other FF film which do show the cast). Losing the infobox image would be no great loss to the article. Maybe this image doesn't precisely meet the rules but if we can find a reason to keep the article would be better for it. Improving articles and making a better encyclopedia is what it is all about right? -- 109.78.193.37 ( talk) 13:36, 31 August 2019 (UTC) reply
This opinion just brings up more problems with the image. Since the image is a portion of a magazine cover, the fair use rationale is incorrect in stating it is the "Full promotional image as released." and the licensing is wrong in that it should use Template:Non-free magazine cover. This means the whole cover needs to be used with the magazine's name and should be used to "to illustrate the publication of the issue of the magazine in question" and not about the subject of the image. The only exception to this would be if the image has critical commentary, which here this is none about the image. The purpose of use of "Illustration of an example within the article." is so vague that it needs to be changed to match any sourced critical commentary of the image if it is added to the article before the image could be considered to pass WP:NFCC.
