Hello,
At the time the file was uploaded (2006), the licensing on the source site was quite different, and stated "The University of Iowa Libraries are not aware of any U.S. copyright protection (see Title 17, U.S.C.) or any other restrictions in the materials in the John P. Vander Maas Railroadiana Collection." and "We do ask that a credit line be included with each image used." I have no problem with deleting the image, as an explicit copyright notice was later added. It's not orphaned. -- Asclepias ( talk) 04:28, 3 November 2018 (UTC) reply
Not really. It's a modified version, with the upper part (a portion of sky) of the photograph cropped out, resulting in a different ratio of the dimensions. There's an aesthetic choice made by the editors of the article, to use this version in the article. It probably would not be a good idea for people who don't work on this article to suddenly change the choices made by the editors of the article about an image that is there since the creation of the article more than eleven years ago. There's no problem with having more than one version of an image. From what I could find, Wikimedia has at least five versions of this image, all different in some way. There are three files on Commons (the .tif file, complete with the original caption at the top, and two smaller .jpg files, one with the left side cropped out, both used in articles in different wikipedias) and there are two .png files on en.wikipedia (one with the top cropped out and both larger than the .jpg files). -- Asclepias ( talk) 19:12, 3 November 2018 (UTC) reply

Hello,
At the time the file was uploaded (2006), the licensing on the source site was quite different, and stated "The University of Iowa Libraries are not aware of any U.S. copyright protection (see Title 17, U.S.C.) or any other restrictions in the materials in the John P.
