File:Foreigner-I-Want-To-Know-Wh-297484.jpg is currently "PD-ineligible-USonly". The copyright status of album cover of Agent Provocateur (album) shall be evaluated. I asked the same question at WP:MCQ, but no one there responded. I want to be bold and change the info to reflect the licensing accuracy, but I'd rather put this up for FFD first. This album cover has unique colored shapes forming an "F", in contrast to the UK picture sleeve of " I Want to Know What Love Is" using the very basic 3D "F". Speaking of that song, if the album cover is not copyrightable in the US, same should go for the US release of the worldwide hit single, which I plan to upload if the album cover (similar to the front cover of the US single) is considered free only in the US. @ Salavat, are you saying that you think the logo or the screenshot should be kept? I personally would keep the logo, not the screenshot, as I don't see what extra value the screenshot provides (yes, a search box lets users search—doesn't need a non-free illustration, especially one that isn't supported by sourced text). czar 06:19, 4 March 2017 (UTC) reply
I support the logo being kept over the screenshot however Wcam had said it was in violation due to the screenshot so I was trying to work around at least something being shown in the infobox. Would prefer the logo being kept regardless of what happens to the screenshot (if that was up for discussion). Salavat ( talk) 07:07, 4 March 2017 (UTC) reply

Derivative of non-free content; there is no FOP in Indonesia FASTILY 07:20, 22 February 2017 (UTC) reply

"Derivative of non-free content"? I bought that statue and took the photo myself. What are you on about? Yintan  08:33, 23 February 2017 (UTC) reply
Ownership of the statue does not transfer its copyright to you. While you hold the copyright to the photo, copyright for the statue resides with the person who created it. There is no freedom of panorama in Indonesia for this type of work, so we can't host this photo. — Diannaa 🍁 ( talk) 14:41, 23 February 2017 (UTC) reply
But then how is this acceptable, FOP wise? Also, 'my' statue is a traditional religious design, they've been making identical ones for centuries (See, for example, this one). It's not an original design by the stone carver. Yintan  22:14, 23 February 2017 (UTC) reply
(ec) The copyright law of Indonesia is available at Wikisource: s:Copyright Act of Republic of Indonesia. Section 10 (if I am understanding it correctly) says that the Government of Indonesia is the copyright holder of ancient artistic works, and that approval of the relevant government agency needs to be sought before reproducing. — Diannaa 🍁 ( talk) 22:46, 23 February 2017 (UTC) reply
I see, and I think you understand it correctly. With that article and no FOP, there's a lot to be deleted on Commons then. Yintan  23:02, 23 February 2017 (UTC) reply
Does such a copyright apply to the US? From what I know, the US constitution does not permit an unending copyright and that is an unending copyright. Jo-Jo Eumerus ( talk, contributions) 22:51, 23 February 2017 (UTC) reply
That article is slightly bizarre and obviously ignored by virtually every publisher. But rules are rules, I guess. Yintan  23:02, 23 February 2017 (UTC) reply
@ Jo-Jo Eumerus: each country has its own set of copyright rules. — Diannaa 🍁 ( talk) 04:28, 24 February 2017 (UTC) reply
Yes. The reason I am asking is to know whether the copyright would apply in the US. Jo-Jo Eumerus ( talk, contributions) 16:27, 24 February 2017 (UTC) reply
The ancient statue would be out of copyright in the United States. Copyright law of the United States. So if the statue is PD in the US and copyright in the source country, we could host the image here on Wikipedia but not on the Commons. Template with {{ Do not move to Commons|reason=USonly}}. We also need two license tags: one for the photo and one for the statue. — Diannaa 🍁 ( talk) 16:41, 24 February 2017 (UTC) reply
@ Diannaa: With that article the Indonesian government basically claims copyright on everything for ever, unless somebody else has already copyrighted it. It's quite Draconian. They could make a lot of money if they start sueing all those companies that publish holiday brochures, for a start. But anyway, if my pic has to go, it has to go. Yintan  08:28, 24 February 2017 (UTC) reply
@ Yintan: How old is the statue? Is it a recent creation, a piece of work taken from some ancient temple, a perfect copy of a statue on an ancient temple or something else? Jo-Jo Eumerus ( talk, contributions) 19:57, 25 February 2017 (UTC) reply
@ Jo-Jo Eumerus: The statue in the photograph is about 25 years old, but the actual design has been used for centuries. It's not an original design by the stone carver, it's the classic 'demon guard' you'll find on numerous Balinese temples. Some of these guard statues are replaced after a century or so because the soft sandstone doesn't last very long, and of course the replacement has to be as good as identical to the previous statue. So in that respect you could say it's a copy of a statue on an ancient temple, yes. I bought mine of a stone carver who had made about 10 of them in advance, knowing that sooner or later a temple would contact him for a replacement. If you do a picture search for Balinese demon guards you'll find many very similar, if not identical, statues. Yintan  21:26, 25 February 2017 (UTC) reply

It's essentially impossible to check for renewal on an unnamed image, especially this old. The chances of renewal are near-zero, though. Remember that college sports weren't nearly as big back then. The source link no longer has the file on the webpage. The file page claims that the image has been released into the public domain, but there is no evidence provided that it is. Scalzi (who also goes by User:Scalzi on Wikipedia) also posted this image on Flickr, and it is clearly marked "All rights reserved," and does not have the appropriate Creative Commons license. If User:Scalzi could clarify whether he has actually released it into the public domain, or if he retains all rights to the image (or if he has any other images of himself he wants Wikimedia to use instead), that would be helpful. I believe it's called at User:Herostratus/Nautical/Wdefcon (not by name, as the string "Herostratus defcon maritime 1" is constructed by code (by appending some number to "Herostratus defcon maritime ")), which in turn is called by {{ Vandalism information}}, if the right parameters are called. Since the call is by parameters and string construction, it's not easy to figure out if the graphic is or is not used anywhere. But a search on the string "{{Vandalism information|prefix=User:Herostratus/Nautical/}}" (which is the call that uses this graphic) User:Herostratus/Nautical/Wdefcon shows 18 instances, of which some are apparently talk pages but one or two or a few might be the regular intended use. I use it on my page, and although TBH I don't look at it much, neither do I want you to destroy it. What for?
I'm a little rusty on all this. I made all this over ten years aggo... at any rate, it used to be in use and I suppose could be in future. It appears that the vandal patrollers are still updating the vandalism level. At any rate, if you want to delete this graphic, I think the first thing you want to do is run a WP:MFD on User:Herostratus/Nautical/Wdefcon, and if that succeeds then edit {{ Vandalism information}} and its documentation to delete the call to User:Herostratus/Nautical/Wdefcon, and then delete the file (and presumably you'd also want to delete File:Herostratus defcon maritime 2.jpg and 3, 4, and 5.)
Enh. Too much work and its not hurting anyone. I'd leave it alone absent a better argument. Herostratus ( talk) 01:13, 5 March 2017 (UTC) reply

Keep: This image's Creative Commons status does allow for one to "share" as well as "adapt" meaning to "remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially" and also that the "The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms". As the aforesaid is so, one can be opinionated that my flipping of the imaging file would have been allowed for and as well totally permitted as a result of the above. In so doing, one would thus be of the belief that the file should be kept within its current state altogether. Silverfish4, (talk)

Fails WP:NFCCP#8. A poster is permitted in the infobox at film articles as the primary means of visual identification. The usage of the poster at Rambo III does not serve that purpose (an alternative poster is already include din the infobox) and therefore its function is mainly decorative. Oppose because I think it is in use, or might be.
