Various non-free files being used in Henri Matise and other articles. Since each of these files is also being used in stand-alone articles about the paintings, their non-free use in the Matise article and the others seems unnecessary per WP:NFCC#1, WP:NFCC#3 and WP:NFCC#8 based upon item 6 of WP:NFC#UUI. In fact, the captions for each of these painting includes a wikilink to the respective stand-alone article, so not sure how this would be different from simply adding a link directly to the article content and removing the images. Unless it's possible to convert some of the files to public domain, I think a serious discussion of their non-free use is needed.

  1. File:Odalisque with Arms Raised.jpg: Being used in Odalisque with Raised Arms and Henri Matisse#After Paris. Using the file in the stand-alone article seems fine, but not sure why this particular file needs to be seen by the reader to understand the single sentence about Matisses odalisque paintings when a wikilink to the stand-alone article can serve the same purpose per WP:FREER.
  2. File:The Plum Blossoms.jpg: Being used in The Plum Blossoms and Henri Matisse#Legacy. Use in stand-alone article seems fine, but the mention in the Matisse article is mainly about how much the painting sold at auction. Again a link to the stand-alone article seems more that sufficient here.
  3. File:Matisse-The-Dessert-Harmony-in-Red-Henri-1908-fast.jpg: Being used in The Dessert: Harmony in Red (The Red Room), Red#In the 20th and 21st century, List of works by Henri Matisse and Henri Matisse#Gertrude Stein, Académie Matisse, and the Cone sisters. Non-free use in "Red" is lacking a non-free use rationale and is completely decorative. Same goes for the list article per WP:NFLISTS: a non-free image should not be used for an individual entry especially when a corresponding stand-alone article exists. Use in the Matisse article is also not need, especially since the painting itself is not mentioned anywhere in the article other than the caption and Henri Matisse#Partial list of works and certianly is not the subject of any sourced discussion which is generally required per NFCC#8.
  4. File:Henri Matisse Annelies.jpg: Being used in Annelies, White Tulips and Anemones and Henri Matisse#The war years. There is some content about Matisse's wife given in Matisse article, but the painting itself is only mentioned by name twice and the reader does not need to see a non-free image to understand what is written.
  5. File:Matissesnail.jpg: Being used in The Snail and Henri Matisse#The war years. Painting is only mentioned twice by name in the Matisse article, so like the context required by NFCC#8 is lacking and a link to the stand-alone article seems more than sufficient.
  6. File:Jazz Henri Matisse.JPG: Being used in Jazz (Henri Matisse) and Henri Matisse#The final years. This actually seems to be the only one of the paintings which is actually somewhat discussed in the article, but even so I still an not sure the reader actually needs to see the painting/cut-out to understand what is written about it. Moreover, there is actually a hatnote directing the reader to the stand-alone article where the image can be seen which again makes its use in the Matisse article unnecessary per item 6 of NFC#UUI

I thought this was a two dimensional photo. As far as I know it is not a 3D photo. Unless what is meant that the memorial in actuality is 3D then yes. The photo on Wikipedia is 2D. Isn't this statue an architectural work ? It is stationary and permanent. No one lives in the statue but people view the statue. I would call that "humanly habitable". In fact there is a human seating area to view the statue. I am not against deletion. I have no issue if this photo is deleted. Here is the link to the websites' Terms and Conditions of Use. Cmguy777 ( talk) 01:54, 21 April 2017 (UTC) reply
  • Comment: 3D is refering to the statue as in "3D work of art", not the photo. Moreover, as explained in c:COM:FOP#United States, this would not be considered a "humanly habitable structure" under any reasonable context. There are two copyright issues which need to be clarified for this to be kept: (1) the copyright status of the statue, and (2) the copyright status of the photo. Regarding (1), the statue itself may be in the public domain depending upon when the sculptor(s) who created it died and some other things. Regarding (2), photos of a 3D works of art are most cases be considered to be derivative works and the copyright holder of the photo needs to agree to release it under a free license. So, unless both of the aforementioned copyright issues can be clearly resolved, the file is going to most likely need to be deleted. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 05:49, 21 April 2017 (UTC) reply

  • Please stick to our standard discussion format (indent your comments properly) and don't get unnecessarily defensive. CircuitLogix is proprietary software; that means every and each copy of its screenshots are non-free contents. Everything you said so far about being "free for student" has a restricting clause in it: "for students". Free contents DO NOT have restrictive clause in them. Finally, none of what you said so far matches the license tag on the image, which reads "public domain"! —Best regards, Codename Lisa ( talk) 07:56, 27 April 2017 (UTC) reply
  • I am not being defensive, I am merely trying to clear up a misunderstanding. I do not question that the free student version has a restricting clause. My point is that the software does have a free unrestricted version which is used extensively by colleges and universities throughout the world. This version resides in these institutions' computer labs where they have full, unrestricted access to the source code, which is, in the public domain. Carl142 ( talk)
  • "...which is, in the public domain." This is the only part of your whole message that I strongly doubt. (Of course, it's a deal-breaker.) Prove it. —Best regards, Codename Lisa ( talk) 22:21, 27 April 2017 (UTC) reply

-- Marchjuly ( talk) 05:49, 21 April 2017 (UTC) reply

derivative of non-free content (proprietary software) FASTILY 07:53, 20 April 2017 (UTC) reply

  • Delete. I don't understand why the nom says "derivative". It is a screenshot of a non-free app and hence is non-free. — Codename Lisa ( talk) 09:46, 20 April 2017 (UTC) reply
  • Comment, It is a screenshot of the student version of the software, which is free to anyone who is a student in an accredited post-secondary technical program. Carl142 ( talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:12, 23 April 2017 (UTC) reply
  • I am not mistaking free of charge with free content. The content (source code) is free to technical colleges and universities that use the software for research and other academic purposes. Carl142 ( talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:46, 26 April 2017 (UTC) reply

It is not orphaned. I have added it to the page again. It is my photo and has permission for use.
