Federal Reserve Bank Notes (FRBN) were issued by the
United States government in three series: 1915, 1918, and 1929. These notes were directly backed by one of the
12 District Federal Reserve Banks that comprise the
Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) system.
Series of 1915 and 1918 are referred to as “Large-size” notes (average 7.375 x 3.125 inches or 187 x 79 mm) and Series of 1929 as “Small-size” notes (6.125 x 2.625 inches or 156 x 67 mm) based primarily on their size relative to each other.
