I admire your work. I noticed you are a rollbacker like myself. I would consider working in the anti-vandalism field more often, maybe join the Counter-Vandalism Unit (if you haven't already) as this looks good on your RfA and will really motivate users to support your campaign. I see no reason why you shouldn't have the mop within a few months. Please let me know when you plan to RfA, I'll definitely support you. Keep up the good work. Hi, Dori -
I tthink you're doing terrific work in AFC, you're one of our most experienced editors, and you have the temperament to be an administrator. However, I think you need to do a couple of things before you consider RfA, particularly if you want to self-nom.
* First, I think you should do some more recent changes patrolling, specifically for vandalism and spam. I like the CSD tagging you're doing now, but it's also critical that an admin understand what is and what is not vandalism. I saw you've reverted vandalism at times, but you didn't warn the culprits - you must warn them, not only for the warning's sake but for the timeline of any future block. For this admin, it is frustrating to the nth degree to find a persistent vandal who has 10 vandalism edits without a single warning, meaning that I've got to start that warning process from scratch when it should have been started 9 edits earlier. You should become familiar with Grand Central Station WP:AIV and learn when to report there and when not to report.
* Lately there has been a great deal of emphasis at RfA, AN, and ANI about rollback and its use. I see you use it regularly, but be certain you're using it only for reverting vandalism. Rollback doesn't leave an edit summary, and that's the chief reason it must be used sparingly. Make sure your edit summaries are descriptive. I often run out of characters in my edit summaries, but I ramble. :-)
* Do you have a GA or FA that you nursed to approval? Have you nominated some of the AFC creations at WP:DYK? If so, make sure you point to them (proudly!) on your user page. If not, that's an area for improvement. Mediation such as you've outlined below is a terrific skill for an admin and will help you at RfA.
* Since I can see your deleted contributions, I know you have some experience with files/images, but non-admins will likely quiz you thoroughly since your upload log is empty and you have zero, nada, zilch, no undeleted contributions to the File namespace. To counter this, demonstrate that you have a firm grip of WP:F, WP:NFC, WP:NFCC, and their cousins and nieces. It's not necessary to have uploaded X number of images, but you do need to show you have a grasp of the image policies. Participation at WP:PUI could be helpful here.
IMHO, lack of experience with vandals will be the chief concern to RfA !voters. However, you have a good deal of rounded experience in lots of areas and you should have little difficulty filling that small hole in your Wiki-resume. If you like, I'd be happy to coach you, and of course, let me know when you would like to pull the RfA trigger. Let me know if you have questions. :-) - Krakatoa Katie 03:35, 25 June 2009 (UTC) reply
Hello! I am pleased to see User:DoriSmith#The_Special_Barnstar, User:DoriSmith#The_Upholder_of_the_Wiki_Barnstar, and User:DoriSmith#The_Detective_Barnstar. You have also never been blocked! Bravo! In the two Afds in which we both participated ( [1] and [2]) you made impressive and spot on arguments rather than votes. As such, you absolutely meet User:A_Nobody/RfA#RfA_Standards. The only real suggestion I have is to try to earn some GA, DYK, and Rescue credits along the lines of what I have at User:A Nobody/awards, but otherwise, keep up the good work as what I have seen in my review of you is pleasing! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! Sincerely, -- A Nobody My talk 16:47, 20 September 2009 (UTC) reply

  1. I generally don't participate in RFA (should usually be interpreted as tacit support) but you seem like a fine candidate who's unlikely to encounter much opposition in the first place. I don't think I've ever interacted with you directly, but I have found some of your subpages useful in understanding Wikipedia and what happened at some of the articles I like to edit, before I became more active. Nonetheless I have noticed that your typically calm demeanor and patience heighten your communication skills to an excellent level, especially given the sometimes icky areas that you work in (copyvios, SPIs, etc.). I feel that these qualities (which I'm working on improving in myself ) and your breadth of experience are essential to being a good admin. Go for it! Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
My top contribution (imo) has been to Donald Bren. Before I got involved, there were edit wars about whether it should contain certain negative—but sourced—information. I was able to find better sourcing for the claims, which made the pro-inclusion editors happy, and left the anti-inclusion people satisfied that at least it wasn't solely sourced to tabloids.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
After my success with Donald Bren, I tried to do similar mediation at David Ferguson (impresario). Sadly, that's where I ran into one SPA editor who, given a choice between consensus and ownership, always chose the latter. After some stress, I realized that in general, it's not always possible to make everyone happy, and that in particular, I'm not happy dealing with certain levels of drama. I decided to walk away and focus on wikignoming, which is what I really enjoy doing.
