Description

This page collects monthly memos from the English Wikipedia community to the MediaWiki developers. The objective is to supplement Bugzilla, which collects all "bugs" (requests for fixes and feature improvements) and allows limited discussion in an inconvenient, non-wiki format, in a number of ways. The flexibility of the wiki, and the convenience of having discussion on en.wp, are advantages for discussing feature bugs in particular ("fix" bugs are of lesser interest, although the relative priorities the community accords them may in some cases be useful input for developers).

Goals
  1. help identify and develop the en.wp community's priorities and desires on software development issues, so that both the community better understands its own views on that, and the developers do
  2. through communication with the developers improve understanding of how feasible ideas are
  3. reduce bug duplication and overlap of feature bugs by providing a place for discussion before filing

Structure

Each memo is a subpage of this page, and discussed on the subpage talk page. Memos are published at the end of the month (or shortly after), with any outstanding issues not finalised for that memo being moved to the next month. Each memo has a section at the bottom for any developer response.
