I scrambled the password with a random string, and completely, permanently deleted the associated gmail acct.. I doubt I can usurp, and I've read somewhere that even the techies don't have access to passwords to reset. But I thought it worth a try. And I can get any number of people to testify that I am me, FWOW. But if all of this means nothing, at least I went through the correct bureaucratic process. @ User:PlyrStar93: With all due respect... having been a registered user on Wikipedia for well over a decade as you can see, this is the first time I've heard of a long-term limit for account renames. In fact I cannot see any mention of any such limitations in policy, whether at WP:CHU or WP:UPOL. Though it would be reasonable to assume, out of common sense, that multiple short-term requests would be denied due to server strain not to mention confusion among other editors, I have always been under the impression that in general we shouldn't worry about performance.
That said, this is not something I am willing to spend a lot of energy discussing – certainly not any time in the foreseeable future – and I would be unable to meet either of the two conditions you proposed even if I wanted to do so. I will simply file this among the long list of "Wikipedia policies that don't actually exist but are selectively enforced according to user whim and the phase of the moon" that I really should be accustomed to by now. It certainly gives new meaning to WP:NOTBURO...

The user did a few non-constructive edits (not blatant vandalism) back in the day and left, then returned around 2016 with 20 something edits across the most recent three years. I expect usurped username to be put in somewhat active use, which is how the note in this page is written ("good use"). There are renamers using a certain number of edits as a threshold for usurpation in the past. While I don't have one, I personally do not consider 20 edits in most 3 years + 65 edits total with an inactivity of 8 years as established enough. There are other issues such as the target account seems to have logged in last year, home wiki is not English Wikipedia, but these might not be a big deal (and maybe the notes needs changing). @ Enigmaman: Back in the old days there is no such thing as a global account, and you have to register each wiki separately, so the same username at enwiki and jawiki may belong to same or different user. Then came Single User Login so the same username at all wikis is owned by same user now. Unification process took some time to be finalized, and this involves renaming conflicting usernames, and I would assume email communications were sent so they can be resolved. Maybe the owner of the Japanese Enigma account reacted timely to the announcements and completed the SUL unification first, so that account gets to keep its original username. The rest will have to be forcibly renamed to different usernames because the global username is already taken, or they did not respond to the communications, e.g the original Enigma account here now renamed to Enigma~enwiki. -★- PlyrStar93 → Message me. ← 22:50, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
Yeah I was just wondering, because there were at least two Enigma accounts when globalization came along. I understand it's not the same person making the decision each time, but originally I was told Enigma could not be usurped because an editor had edited here with that username in 2003. Then they let someone else usurp the global name despite the fact that the enwiki Enigma predated the jawiki Enigma by a while. I scrambled the password with a random string, and completely, permanently deleted the associated gmail acct.. @ User:PlyrStar93: With all due respect... having been a registered user on Wikipedia for well over a decade as you can see, this is the first time I've heard of a long-term limit for account renames. In fact I cannot see any mention of any such limitations in policy, whether at WP:CHU or WP:UPOL. Though it would be reasonable to assume, out of common sense, that multiple short-term requests would be denied due to server strain not to mention confusion among other editors, I have always been under the impression that in general we shouldn't worry about performance.
That said, this is not something I am willing to spend a lot of energy discussing – certainly not any time in the foreseeable future – and I would be unable to meet either of the two conditions you proposed even if I wanted to do so. I will simply file this among the long list of "Wikipedia policies that don't actually exist but are selectively enforced according to user whim and the phase of the moon" that I really should be accustomed to by now. It certainly gives new meaning to WP:NOTBURO...

The user did a few non-constructive edits (not blatant vandalism) back in the day and left, then returned around 2016 with 20 something edits across the most recent three years. I expect usurped username to be put in somewhat active use, which is how the note in this page is written ("good use"). There are renamers using a certain number of edits as a threshold for usurpation in the past. While I don't have one, I personally do not consider 20 edits in most 3 years + 65 edits total with an inactivity of 8 years as established enough. There are other issues such as the target account seems to have logged in last year, home wiki is not English Wikipedia, but these might not be a big deal (and maybe the notes needs changing). @ Enigmaman: Back in the old days there is no such thing as a global account, and you have to register each wiki separately, so the same username at enwiki and jawiki may belong to same or different user. Then came Single User Login so the same username at all wikis is owned by same user now. Unification process took some time to be finalized, and this involves renaming conflicting usernames, and I would assume email communications were sent so they can be resolved. Maybe the owner of the Japanese Enigma account reacted timely to the announcements and completed the SUL unification first, so that account gets to keep its original username. The rest will have to be forcibly renamed to different usernames because the global username is already taken, or they did not respond to the communications, e.g the original Enigma account here now renamed to Enigma~enwiki. -★- PlyrStar93 → Message me. ← 22:50, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
Yeah I was just wondering, because there were at least two Enigma accounts when globalization came along. I understand it's not the same person making the decision each time, but originally I was told Enigma could not be usurped because an editor had edited here with that username in 2003. Then they let someone else usurp the global name despite the fact that the enwiki Enigma predated the jawiki Enigma by a while.
