Yes please. As far as I'm aware this is technically the same username as Ozormox, hence why I requested this rather than normal username change. Correct me if I'm wrong.  Clerk note: The policy might not forbid those usernames but imho we should not encourage their use further by renaming people to such names, which are both complicated for people to write and might break formatting and/or display of pages. I think Betacommand's rename started a trend that's ultimately harmful to this project while being of no real use to those renamed and I'd suggest the crat(s) considering this request to put it on hold until the community has discussed this and policy been changed to address it. The fact that such users were blocked in the past is indication that there might be some dispute about whether such names are desired under our username policy and we should discuss it first before proceeding with granting those requests. I don't want to seem argumentative, but one, people could either type "spade" or &spades, but it's not hard to type and it's a simple HTML symbol. Two, the policy has never forbid such names ever. All the blocks show was that the blocking admins were not completely familiar with the username policy. Admins can't block because they don't like something! Three, have these usernames ever proven to break the display of pages? A simple HTML symbol simply shouldn't do that. As far as I know, the software can support HTML symbols. They've always seemed to show up normally, like any other character. Four, this request has nothing to do with Betacommand's rename, and I was unaware there was a trend of users changing their names to symbols. If there was an ongoing discussion, I wouldn't have made this request until it was over. However, I don't think it should be prevented in anticipation of a discussion that may or may not prohibit such usernames, and would like to have this request judged based on current policy, not personal opinion or anticipation of a change in policy. I merely pointed out that there a good reasons to decline such a request (another example is the automated clerk note by ClueBot above which demonstrates that automated scripts and bots might be unable to parse such usernames) and that admins back then possibly acted in what was considered consensus, even if it was not written down. As such, there is a real chance that consensus might not be in favor of such usernames and thus we might benefit from discussing it first. There is no harm to postpone this request to allow such a discussion first, so I think it would be sensible for the deciding crat to do so. Just my thoughts. I would rather have a consensus one way or another, but as of right now, I don't think there's a consensus against them at all. If you or someone actually intends to start a discussion regarding this, it's only sensible to postpone the request. If not, postponing indefinitely until a discussion takes place (if ever) isn't really sensible. I don't think the issue's ever bothered the community enough to try to establish a consensus against them. The important question is whether or not they're harmful or distracting to the project. Perhaps this should be discussed at WP:RFC/N prior to fulfillment? I am sympathetic to the view that these names tend to hinder collaboration and provide no particular benefit to the encyclopedia apart from an editor happy that they now have a "cool symbol name" (no doubt negatively offset by however many number of editors annoyed by it). In any case, I see no reason to ignore the hold period: someone having a symbol as a username doesn't particularly improve or maintain the encyclopedia. – xeno talk 13:31, 18 August 2010 (UTC) reply
I would be more willing to initiate a discussion about symbol usernames in general, rather than an RFC about an individual username. But come on, Xeno, the hold period is simply to give the owner of the account time to protest the usurpation, isn't it? Since the account is blocked it serves no purpose. You know we don't need to follow process for the sake of process. We can use common sense to ignore an unnecessary process. Forget this damn request(never mind, don't forget!), it's causing more drama then it's worth. I'll start an RFC on it. I didn't make this request because I wanted a cool username, I made it because I wanted to show that these usernames do no harm. I didn't think I'd be checked at the door. fi:User:Ras here. I am Ras at commonswiki, fiwikibooks, fiwikinews, fiwiki (since 5th Nov 2005), enwikinews and strategywiki (of the others with edits only de.wiki's Ras seems to have recent edits) so it would make sense that I would be Ras at en.wiki too. Ideally, I'd like Wmc deleted, so I can create WMC. Or, if you have super-powers that can override the checks, just create WMC.

Pallet is just a platform that provide a connection to Wikipedia, the magic comes from a editors coding a job to do edits to Wikipedia running on the platform. I want to avoid calling the platform a bot and instead call the jobs coded by editors a bot, to make editors aware that they are coding bots and need to make sure they follow the same polices other bots go through. The edit summery will have the name of the bot running and a link to its discussion page. If the jobs done on the platform are called bots and the platform called has "bot" in the username it makes it harder to explain what is going on. Since the edit summery and the user page will show that this is a bot platform running a bot. If we perform the rename, there is no guarantee that BAG won't just send you right back here to get it changed to something more suitable. Per Wikipedia:BOTPOL#Bot accounts, "it should be immediately clear that its edits are made by an automated account; this is usually accomplished by including the word 'Bot' at the beginning or end of the username". Yes, a descriptive edit summary and a bot flag will, in most cases, make it clear; but in other cases (such as a raw list of contributors to an article), it would not be clear. Actually I was going by the reason they gave, "This is my username on other sites" and the fact that User:Fatcud is global. Therefore, if User:Stemcellbaby is User:Fatcud on other wikis, then they are also User:Fatcud here. However, "other sites" may not refer to other wikis. In that case, the usurpation should be fine.  Clerk note: The policy might not forbid those usernames but imho we should not encourage their use further by renaming people to such names, which are both complicated for people to write and might break formatting and/or display of pages. I think Betacommand's rename started a trend that's ultimately harmful to this project while being of no real use to those renamed and I'd suggest the crat(s) considering this request to put it on hold until the community has discussed this and policy been changed to address it. The fact that such users were blocked in the past is indication that there might be some dispute about whether such names are desired under our username policy and we should discuss it first before proceeding with granting those requests. I don't want to seem argumentative, but one, people could either type "spade" or &spades, but it's not hard to type and it's a simple HTML symbol. Two, the policy has never forbid such names ever. All the blocks show was that the blocking admins were not completely familiar with the username policy. Admins can't block because they don't like something! Three, have these usernames ever proven to break the display of pages? A simple HTML symbol simply shouldn't do that. As far as I know, the software can support HTML symbols. They've always seemed to show up normally, like any other character. Four, this request has nothing to do with Betacommand's rename, and I was unaware there was a trend of users changing their names to symbols. If there was an ongoing discussion, I wouldn't have made this request until it was over. However, I don't think it should be prevented in anticipation of a discussion that may or may not prohibit such usernames, and would like to have this request judged based on current policy, not personal opinion or anticipation of a change in policy. I merely pointed out that there a good reasons to decline such a request (another example is the automated clerk note by ClueBot above which demonstrates that automated scripts and bots might be unable to parse such usernames) and that admins back then possibly acted in what was considered consensus, even if it was not written down. As such, there is a real chance that consensus might not be in favor of such usernames and thus we might benefit from discussing it first. There is no harm to postpone this request to allow such a discussion first, so I think it would be sensible for the deciding crat to do so. Just my thoughts. I would rather have a consensus one way or another, but as of right now, I don't think there's a consensus against them at all. If you or someone actually intends to start a discussion regarding this, it's only sensible to postpone the request. If not, postponing indefinitely until a discussion takes place (if ever) isn't really sensible. I don't think the issue's ever bothered the community enough to try to establish a consensus against them. The important question is whether or not they're harmful or distracting to the project. Perhaps this should be discussed at WP:RFC/N prior to fulfillment? I am sympathetic to the view that these names tend to hinder collaboration and provide no particular benefit to the encyclopedia apart from an editor happy that they now have a "cool symbol name" (no doubt negatively offset by however many number of editors annoyed by it). I would be more willing to initiate a discussion about symbol usernames in general, rather than an RFC about an individual username. Pallet is just a platform that provide a connection to Wikipedia, the magic comes from a editors coding a job to do edits to Wikipedia running on the platform. I want to avoid calling the platform a bot and instead call the jobs coded by editors a bot, to make editors aware that they are coding bots and need to make sure they follow the same polices other bots go through. The edit summery will have the name of the bot running and a link to its discussion page. If the jobs done on the platform are called bots and the platform called has "bot" in the username it makes it harder to explain what is going on. If we perform the rename, there is no guarantee that BAG won't just send you right back here to get it changed to something more suitable. Per Wikipedia:BOTPOL#Bot accounts, "it should be immediately clear that its edits are made by an automated account; this is usually accomplished by including the word 'Bot' at the beginning or end of the username". Yes, a descriptive edit summary and a bot flag will, in most cases, make it clear; but in other cases (such as a raw list of contributors to an article), it would not be clear. That would not be appropriate per our local policy. It seems the account was created the same day you filed the usurp request - I don't know if there's some underlying impersonation issue or something? If you are able to get renamed at your local wiki, and able to usurp the global account, this request will proceed. I'm not aware of a policy that would allow us to usurp an account based on its status as matching a callsign. Further, this diff on ko.wikipedia seems to indicate that the username was not selected as an impersonation, but user initials and the initials of his university/universities. If the existing accounts are usurped by the requesting user (원용), however, it would make sense to have stewards delete the global account to permit reunification. It would be best to explain the situation calmly to the current user of the "DS1SKU" account, however, and ask them to voluntarily relinquish it first. (If it matters, I understand my username has previously been the callsign of a Western United States radio station. Not that I was aware of this fact prior to my Wikipedia involvement.)
