I have read the cited section of the Policy, but I fail to see why it applies to me.

If you cite WP:ILLEGIT over the "Soroka" part of my username, then I can tell you that my Mike-related edits over a few months ago were relatively uncontroversial. Also, should I make biassed edits at the Mike page, I would still be held under account as the user NotReallySoroka (which I do not plan to re-name).

If you think that re-claiming my old username would be a breach of WP:ILLEGIT, please keep in mind that I am retrieving my own past username, not stealing the past name of another. Also, under the "User Info" at my user page, I would list clearly the fact that the username "DePlume" is both my past user name and my present, alternate account.

NotReallySoroka, you explained the illegitimate use yourself, it "reduces the awkwardness when I edit". To paraphrase, you'll use the alternate to make edits which would be challenged if you used your main account. While acknowledging your good intentions, that is the absolute essence of sockpuppetry. I know you are a prolific editor, so I would assume that if you find any edit “which would be challenged”, you would click on that user’s username to investigate further. In my case, you would find that “DePlume” is just an alias for “NotReallySoroka”, as you will see both from the fact that User:PasVraimentSoroka is currently a redirect to my user page, and the “User Info” section of my user page, where I list things such as my alternate account, former username, and warnings that I have received. Therefore, I don’t see how I would be able to evade challenges for edits that would be problematic when made under my alternate (edited) account, Mike Soroka-related or not.
