Reason: I started editing under the username Lawrence Farwell. In an effort to change my username, I stopped editing under that name in 2008 and created an account with the username Neuroscientist1. I have been using Neuroscientist1 exclusively since then. I found out recently that this against the Wikipedia policies, and Neuroscientist1 is considered a "suspected sockpuppet" of Lawrence Farwell. I would like to clear this situation up. To that end, I want to change my username to NeuroscientistA. I understand that to do so the standard procedure is to sign in with my original username. I do not remember the password for Lawrence Farwell, however, and I no longer have access to the email account I was using in 2008. I cannot correct my error while signed in as Lawrence Farwell, because I have no access to that account. (Neither does anyone else.) As I recall, I revealed my real name to Wikipedia when I created both accounts. Can someone check and see that Lawrence Farwell and Neuroscientist1 are the same person (which is the case), and allow me to make a change while signed in as Neuroscientist1? If not, what are my other options? If I cannot access my original account, and I cannot use any other account without being accused of being a sockpuppet, what can I do to contribute to Wikipedia? (Note: the other two "suspected sockpuppets" of Lawrence Farwell, namely brainf and brainfingerprinting, are not sockpuppets of Lawrence Farwell. I have no idea who they are.) I would like to straighten this out, so I can follow the rules and be a good citizen from now on. Please take the necessary actions and/or give me guidance as to what I can do to correct this situation.

Hi
Neuroscientist1, getting a username change probably isn't a good idea if you have been accused of sockpuppetry, since other editors may see that as trying to obfuscate what you did. I'm reading some of your recent edits and it seems that at one point you wanted both your "Lawrence Farwell" and your "Neuroscientist1" accounts to be merged; this is not technically possible, unfortunately. —

Reason: The reason I am requesting a username change is because I am creating a Wikipedia page on content of the French Revolution. More specifically, I have to do research on Jacques Louis David and publish it online for my undergraduate studies at Florida International University. My professor sent an email asking the class to create our accounts with our real name because it would not be visible globally, but only to him.

Hi
Clydetheglide9. Unfortunately what your professor just said about names not being visible "globally" is untrue, as usernames are always public. You may wish to contact your professor and let him know about this. You may wish to point him to our
username policy if he hasn't seen it already. Do not hesitate to
contact me if you have any questions. Thanks, —
