Clarification There is no proposal to "blanket it under something like
Category:People of Tahitian descent". The Tahitian reference was just a passing observation that Tahitian at least, would have a better legitimate claim to a demonym as it is a distinct island, and, arguably, a nation. The same argument could be made for
Category:People from Raiatea. It cannot, however, be made for a collection of random islands whose only common link is that they were colonised by France. Colonisation does not make for ethnicity or descent.

Oppose. Yes, its a thing. I agree with Inter&anthro that "Tahitian" is too narrow. "Mā'ohi" is a broader term, which seems to be used in French Polynesian media for Polynesians currently governed by France.--

It is unclear to me how containerization solves the issue at stake. The subcategories suffer from the same problem, that is, if it is a problem at all.

If merged/renamed, a later step would be to rename/merge the sports clubs and sports teams categories by (geography) (taking
