Category:Barcelona Province — C2C - All other categories for individual provinces in Spanish-speaking world contained in the tree
Category:Provinces by country show that it is the Wikipedia naming convention to use a form like Barcelona Province when the Spanish proper full name is like "Provincia de Barcelona". The prove for the application of the naming convention can be found in the following categories:
Category:Provinces of Argentina,
Category:Provinces of Bolivia,
Category:Provinces of Chile,
Category:Provinces of Colombia,
Category:Provinces of Gran Colombia,
Category:Provinces of Costa Rica,
Category:Provinces of Cuba,
Category:Provinces of the Dominican Republic,
Category:Provinces of Ecuador,
Category:Provinces of Equatorial Guinea,
Category:Provinces of Panama, (no categories within
Category:Provinces of Peru,
Category:Provinces of the Spanish Empire),
Category:Provinces of Venezuela. Same Wikipedia naming convention for linguistically and/or geographically related Portuguese language items apply to
Category:Provinces of Portugal,
Category:Provinces of Angola,
Category:Provinces of Mozambique. The only ones that inconsistently use lower case "province" are the ones from Spain listed here.

- Actually the other categories for Spanish provinces use a lower-case P. Although, shouldn't it be
Category:Province of Barcelona like the article? The same goes for all the other categories named after Spanish provinces.

- The others are proposed for change below. Shouldn't the articles be changed to match the other Spanish-speaking world province articles? Then we would have it all consistent, all articles and all categories?

- [EC] Looking at other categories is not by itself a sufficient basis for identifying a Wikipedia convention on category names. It's not clear that the "convention" you perceive is truly a convention arrived at by
consensus. One generally established convention at Wikipedia is to name categories consistent with the names of main articles in those categories. In some of the other categories you cite, the articles for provinces have names in the form
Azua Province and
Niassa Province, so the category names are consistent with the article names. As you note, that is not the case for the main articles for provinces in Spain, where the article names are in the form
Province of Barcelona. Unless there's a past discussion somewhere in the archives that supports your theory on the "convention", I'd like to see a discussion of this proposal that can arrive at consensus agreement on a convention to follow. --

- C2C "established naming conventions" - it does not talk about how the convention for the other items was reached. Agree with the article names. Shouldn't these be changed to match the other Spanish-speaking world province articles?

Category:Provinces by country show that it is the Wikipedia naming convention to use a form like Las Palmas Province when the Spanish proper full name is like "Provincia de La Palmas". It is true that the short forms are as you write. But they cannot be used as category names since they are ambiguous - several provinces are named after towns, or the names are found in other countries. - Category names can be disambiguated in the same fashion as article names (e.g., "Córdoba (province)"). It is not necessary to invent an new name form like "Córdoba Province." As stated above, I think this proposal requires discussion -- it does not qualify for "speedy" renaming. --
