This course provides a broad overview of the field of social psychology, emphasizing major themes, historical trends, and current directions. This is a course designed for graduate students. The content leans toward students pursuing a career in social psychology, although the course is open to students from outside of the discipline as well. For the final project, students will be asked to choose between: a) Composing a new article on a topic in social psychology that is not yet represented at Wikipedia, or b) Revising an existing article on Wikipedia that does not adequately represent a topic in social psychology.
In the first week, all students MUST:
1) Sign up for the class site at Wikipedia
In the second week, all students MUST:
1) Complete all of the on-line training modules about how to write a good Wikipedia article.
By the end of Week 3, all students MUST:
1) Decide whether they are going to compose a new article or revise an existing one.
2) Submit their chosen topic to the instructor AND receive approval.
By the end of this week (but earlier is better), all students MUST:
1) Post their article live on Wikipedia
During this week, all students should be monitoring and responding to feedback.
At the end of Week 10, all students should write an email to the instructor with a link to the posted article, and note describing the feedback received and how the student has responded.
Grading will begin on Monday of Week 11.
