In this project, you will work on a piece of writing to update an Wikipedia article about a specific topic. You will inform and explain with facts and data from reliable sources, rather than proposing your own opinions and conjectures. Your language also needs to be formal and clear to your Wiki audience. The goal of this project is to help you understand and experience how to integrate sources into your own writing. The assignment will be to compose a 2-3 page document, which will be incorporated into the contents of your intended Wiki page. You will also provide a list of sources you have referred to. The training and follow-up assistance for your Wiki editing will be given during this project.
This week, everyone should have a Wikipedia account.
By Sunday, March 25, you will:
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Improving an existing article?
Identify what's missing from the current form of the article. Think back to the skills you learned while critiquing an article. Make notes for improvement in
your sandbox.
NEVER copy and paste your draft of an article over the entire article. Instead, edit small sections at a time.
Copy your edits into the article. Make many small edits, saving each time, and leaving an edit summary. Never replace more than one to two sentences without saving!
Be sure to copy text from your sandbox while the sandbox page is in 'Edit' mode. This ensures that the formatting is transferred correctly.
Keep reading your sources, too, as you write the body of the article.
You will have your final draft of contents for your Wiki editing by Sunday, April 1, and then start your actual editing of the target Wiki article.
It's the final week to develop your article.
