This project had its origins in a Twitter conversation between
@sayraphim and
@mikejonesmelb in March 2018 about the number of Victorian museums with no Wikipedia page on the '
List of museums in Victoria (Australia)'. With International Museums Day a couple of months away, they decided to do something about it. As a result, they organised the first International Museums Day Edit-a-thon focused on Victorian Museums, with support from
ACMI and ACMI-X, who provided the venue.
While the inaugural edit-a-thon was organised with the intention of kick-starting work, the project to improve coverage of Victorian museums on Wikipedia is ongoing. If you want to participate, you can include your name in the 'Members' section below.
Goals
Improve Wikipedia's coverage of Victorian museums and galleries.
Improve quality of existing articles on Victorian museums and galleries, including more detail and/or photos where necessary.
Here is a Wikidata query which displays a map of museums and subclasses of museum in Victoria, Australia (where there are coordinates available). If there is an image and/or a Wikipedia article it will show that too.
Canley (
talk·contribs) will update this over the course of the edit-a-thon.
2018 International Museums Day Edit-a-thon
Sayraphim Lothian and Mike Jones organised an Edit-a-thon for International Museums Day on 18 May 2018, at ACMI-X in Melbourne, Victoria. The purpose of the edit-a-thon was to create and improve pages for Victorian museums and galleries.
Please feel free to tackle any of the items below! If you do start working on something, we recommend adding an 'in progress' note beside the institution on this project page. Then, when you have finished something, move it to the 'Work Completed' section at the bottom, including your username and the date/time.
