This Wikiportal is linked to from Wikipedia:Browse. I created the page a while back as a kind of experiment. How do people think it could be improved? Also, would it be useful to create some kind of system for selecting featured articles and pictures? Are there any other boxes that we should create for this portal? One thing to add would be something like "Happenings in 2005" which would link to 2005 in video gaming. The box could have information from the events and business sections of that page (but keep to that considering we are not a news site) in addition to possible Wikinews links that may have been published.
For the part about featured rotation, you should probably change it either once every month or maybe every other week. I don't know. Cruise some other portals and see how much they update their stuff and how they're doing it for other possible options. K1Bond007 19:00, July 20, 2005 (UTC)
On first (and second and third), it looked a Nintendo portal; of three images, one is of a Nintendo Console, other of a popular game, and the third a screenie from a Mario game. While I'm not sure of previous "editions", there should always be a balance between brands and genres. Also, I don't agree with "other featured articles" point at previous GCOTW winners; there are a lot of good articles that never passed through it, yet are superior to, say, Game over, F-Zero or Minigame. wS; 23:05, 20 July 2005 (UTC) reply
I don't see why we couldn't add a system for adding content to this portal. In my humble opinion, Portal:Cricket might be one of the best examples of portals. Here are the sections I feel would be essential:
  • Intro, at the top with the excerpt from Computer and video games
  • Featured article/picture (content added via a simple voting system like in GCOTW)
  • CVG subcategories
  • Wikiprojects, with the Gamebox template, as well as the GCOTW/CVGID banners
  • Showcase articles; name stolen from Cricket portal: both featured CVG articles/lists, as well as good ones, whatever is suitable
  • Other portals, that thing that every portal has at the bottom
That's 7 seperate boxes. This portal is kinda inactive (like the CVG IDrive), which I find sad; I'd like to see this Portal actually become useful. And I'd be willing to work with anyone who wants to try and make this Portal better, active, stuff like that. -- gakon5 (talk)
