Welcome to the UK bus operator quality drive homepage. The drive is a one off editor collaboration of Wikipedia:WikiProject buses, with the aim of bringing all United Kingdom bus operator articles up to a common standard. (See List of bus operators of the United Kingdom).
Any interested editor is welcome to participate in the drive. To assist the drive, editors are requested that any edits made pursuant to this drive should be made with an edit summary that contains the shortcut WP:UKBQDRIVE, which directs editors here.
The drive aims to improve the selected articles with respect to the following policies and guidelines that are specifically relevant to UK bus operator articles:
A background discussion about some of these issues can be found at Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Transport/Bus articles.
To participate in the drive, after adding your name to the participant list, you simply choose an article in the status table that has not been examined (it should have an empty row), then, as described in detail in sub-section below, do the following:
For the avoidance of re-work, it is intended the drive is completed on a one time article by article basis. Therefore, please complete all tasks for an article at once, and note any tasks that could not be completed under the miscellaneous issues section.
Note: very few of the Stagecoach, and FirstGroup subsidiaries have their own commons operator category. As an interim measure, it is intended to add the parent category (FirstGroup buses in the United Kingdom, Arriva Buses GB and Stagecoach UK Bus) to the article, but still mark in the status table that an operator category does not yet exist
Record in the status table the following issues and tasks needing follow up action (add yes, no or n/a in the appropriate column):
Column | Purpose |
---|---|
GOODREFS | Add yes if the article contains good references to reliable sources. Add no if there are no references at all, or it only cites a primary source (i.e. a company website). Tag the article with {{Unreferenced}} or {{Primarysources}}. |
NOTE | Add yes if the article has sufficient notability to merit its inclusion on Wikipedia. Add no if there are notability issues. Operators that are only referenced in timetable/travel directory sites may not be sufficient to justify an article, and may be candidate for merging. Tag the article with {{Notability|Companies}}. |
GOODSTYLE | Add yes if the article a style up to the right standards. Add no if there are issues needing wikifying, such as adding wikilinks (see this tool, formatting into sections, bad prose/tense, being an orphan. Add {{Wikify}} or a variant to the article |
INFBOX | Add yes if the article has an infobox ( Template:Infobox Bus transit), no if not. |
LOGO | Add yes if the article has a logo. Add no if it needs one. If it does have a logo, you may wish to look at it to see if it has a fair use rationale, so it isn't deleted. |
IMAGES | Add yes if the article has at least one image (picture of a bus). |
COMMSCAT | Add yes if the article has got a corresponding Commons Category:Buses in the United Kingdom by operator UK operator category (Note:empty categories are not allowed on Commons). You may want to link the entry in this column to the commons category if it exists. |
ATCOMMS | Add yes if all of the images on in the article (except logos of course) are on the
Wikimedia Commons. Add no if the article contains Wikipedia hosted images that can be transferred to the Commons (See Category:Buses in the United Kingdom and Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons). Add n/a if the article has no images. |
List any article you find with an odd problem that doesn't fit into the status table, or wasn't fixed at the time
As future tasks are completed, such as adding an infobox or transferring images to commons, the corresponding entries in the status table should be updated.
