02:25:02, 31 January 2017 review of submission by Dick Whittington

Minor corrections have been made to initial submission. Editorial classification of the article is 'Start' class. The information on reasons for this low classification is very general. 1. How does one obtain more specific guidance? 2. Articles will vary in the amount of detailed biographical information provided. This article is meant to be general in coverage, rather than detailed. Does article classification depend on degree of generality? Dick Whittington ( talk) 02:25, 31 January 2017 (UTC) reply

Hello, Dick. Thank you for your contribution to Wikipedia. The best source of information as to why your article was assessed the way it was is the reviewer who made that assessment. You'll find that person's name and talk-page link under the "View History" tab of the article's Talk page. For what it's worth, I too would have assessed it as "Start" class. But if you feel that a higher rating is warranted, you can ask for a re-assessment at the talk pages of either of the two WikiProjects that are associated with the article (here, that would be the projects for Biography and Women's History). You can find talk-page links to these projects on the Talk page of the article. I hope this response has been helpful. NewYorkActuary ( talk) 18:55, 31 January 2017 (UTC) reply
User:Dick Whittington - I will comment that I and most experienced editors don't think that the class of an article is important at all. The distinction between Start-Class, C-Class, and B-Class is almost entirely subjective and doesn't really matter anyway. I have never seen an Article for Deletion say that an article should be deleted because it is only Start-Class, for instance. The two highest levels of classes, Good Article, and Featured Article, have formal definitions and reflect a defined review process. However, I don't think it should make any difference whether an article is assessed at Start-Class or C-Class. A few WikiProjects have their own assessment mechanism. Other than that, I don't think that assessment classes make any real difference. Robert McClenon ( talk) 04:19, 3 February 2017 (UTC) reply

While I have been waitng for an initial review, I have found the time useful for making minor edits. In view of the fact that the the article is still an AfC, would it be acceptable to add a photo that I have taken? It would be classified as a 'free work'. A photo you took is perfectly acceptable, as long as it is not of a an object that itself is subject to copyright, such as a work of art. Roger (Dodger67) ( talk) 18:13, 31 January 2017 (UTC) reply
