Suspected sockpuppets

Evidence submitted by Jarkeld ( talk)
  • Using name Anthony or Tony Winward on userpage
  • Using the same picture: [[file:Mac Academy 2008.jpg]] on userpage
  • Making the same lists on the userpages & copying/pasting them between each other

Most edits by these accounts are made to the userpage of the account or the other 2 named accounts.

  • Endorse After the sockpuppet report was submitted, both users blanked their page within half an hour of each other: [1] [2] at 16:06 and 16:32 respectively. I could imagine that one innocent user might feel threatened by the report and blank his page, but two within such a short time? Tang Soo Do veteran also blanked [3] the talk page of Anthony Windward's former school, Macmillan Academy [4]. Like the school and Anthony Windard, the IP address is also in Middlesbrough according to WHOIS [5]. The IP has also edited the userpages of all the other suspected socks ({[Special:Contributions/82.17.114.38|contrib]), so WP:DUCK. They're either socks or people working closely together. What puzzles me though is what use the Tang Soo Do veteran user is to them/him. The only edits that user ever made besides blanking the school talk page are to his own and Riverside's userpages. I originally had the socks blocked, and then I noticed the username change from Tony winward to Anthony Winward. However, I am puzzled as to why the pagemoves to User:Riverside and User:Columbo, respectively, as I'm not seeing them anywhere in any log. – MuZemike 19:29, 17 February 2010 (UTC) reply

They weren't created according to the user creation log, from what I can see. I mentioned these changes to Andrevan as the crat who renamed the user (see thread). -- PhantomSteve/ talk| contribs\ 20:03, 17 February 2010 (UTC) reply
Perhaps they were created on another project? I say that because normally I get that "User account "username" is not registered. If you wish to use "username" as your username, please make a request at Wikipedia:Changing username." message in red letters on top when I hit the edit button. – MuZemike 23:27, 17 February 2010 (UTC) reply
Given that he's blanked his talk page, my guess is that the redirect is an attempt to conceal his identity. Notice how his talk page is still at User talk:Anthony Winward. In fact, I was about to move User:Riverside back to User:Anthony Winward until I saw this discussion, and figured that I'd leave it up to this process. Cheers, CP 01:53, 19 February 2010 (UTC) reply

I've asked Winward to explain what he's trying to do. Hopefully we can get a response back. – MuZemike 17:31, 19 February 2010 (UTC) reply

Given this edit, and the similarity of the name, User:A.C.W might be another sock... Cheers, CP 03:40, 22 February 2010 (UTC) reply
Conclusions

information Administrator note After seeing the A.C.W account (along with the overlap between virtually all the accounts including the Tang Soo Do veteran account), I'm convinced that this is deception via multiple accounts. Socks indefinitely blocked and tagged, Anthony Winward blocked 1 week for sock puppetry. – MuZemike 03:56, 22 February 2010 (UTC) reply

Should we maybe also remove the redirected user pages? ie. User:Anthony Winward to User:Riverside / User:Tony winward to User:Columbo? Cheers, CP 16:29, 22 February 2010 (UTC) reply
They're all tagged with the exception of Tony winward, which is appropriately redirected to Anthony's userpage as a legitimate username change. – MuZemike 18:17, 23 February 2010 (UTC) reply
Sorry, I meant to say that I'd done a bit of that, and forgot! -- PhantomSteve/ talk| contribs\ 19:07, 23 February 2010 (UTC) reply

Suspected sockpuppets

Evidence submitted by Jarkeld

Uses the name Anthony, same writing style, edits his userpage exclusively. Samuelsons Club appears to be a club in Middlesbrough (quick google search) where Tony Winwards former school is located (see archive). Doesn't show interaction with his other accounts, nor had they been used to edit this user's page. Account was created before the previous SPI case was filed. Checkuser requested to identify additional low-profile socks. Jarkeld ( talk) 23:01, 2 March 2010 (UTC) reply

Clerk declined, duck (and check the archives). Seems that Tony winward/Anthony Winward still doesn't get the point that he can't abuse alternative accounts/IPs. Spitfire Tally-ho! 17:47, 31 March 2010 (UTC) reply

Clerk note: also just noting that the IP is apparently static, and can be hardblocked, if deemed nesscery. Personally I think a ~one month block on Anthony Winward and a ~one month block on the IP (with account creation disabled) would be sufficient Spitfire Tally-ho! 18:23, 31 March 2010 (UTC) reply
