Suspected sockpuppets

The three users have been recently registered here and their interests are focused on common topics such as Turks in Bulgaria and Gagauzes. For the Gagauzes their genetic studie are the target. Look for example: [1], [2], [3] and also: [4], [5], [6]. Jingiby ( talk) 05:15, 26 December 2021 (UTC) reply

Suspected sockpuppets

Note to SPI clerk(s): I am aware that technical information about users (such as their IP address) is retained for a limited period of time on Wikimedia Foundation sites. Please read the whole report before you either endorse or decline the CU request.

Evidence: Ödegay31 is already indefinitely blocked, but i suspect they may be related to Safinazuyuyor (and confirmed sockpuppets YakubSimoglu and HetherKalyoncu). If this is indeed true, the cases would need to be moved to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Ödegay31, since Ödegay31 is older. Though, besides sharing the same POV, and editing some of the same or related articles during their respective short editing history, i am not sure it can be confirmed with certainty; unless there is CU data on Ödegay31 saved somewhere. Besides CU, i always wondered if technical data from account registrations is saved, and whether it can be used in such situations.

SamuelLion1877 is a new user (41 days old), who like Ödegay31 and Safinazuyuyor (including socks), has shown a keen interest in the Turkic communities of the eastern Balkans (such as Bulgarian Turks), and the persecution of Muslims in the same broader region during the Ottoman contraction (including the Balkan Wars); which, at least in part, controversially tried to portray as a genocide. As aforementioned, i don't know if there is saved CU data on Ödegay31 in order to run a comparison, but there should be available data on Safinazuyuyor (and socks), since CU was used on them back in late December 2021 ( SPI case). In any case, here are some similarities i noticed; though, all users have a short editing history (making any similarity even more significant), i didn't go through everything:

  • SamuelLion1877 uploaded a total of 19 images in Commons, that are exclusively about Bulgarian atrocities against Muslim Turks during the First Balkan War. Safinazuyuyor (and both socks) made numerous edits in the article Bulgarian Turks, which included attempts to emphasize their historical persecution in the lead ( EIA). Safinazuyuyor even claimed to be "a Turk from Bulgaria" ( edit summary), which would explain their keen interest in the topic; as would SamuelLion1877's uploads in Commons.
  • In the infobox of Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878), both Safinazuyuyor ( diff1, diff2) and SamuelLion1877 ( diff), tried to present the figure of 400,000 Muslim civilians that were massacred by the Russian coalition forces, as pertaining exclusively to Turkish people.
  • Ödegay31, Safinazuyuyor, and SamuelLion1877 have all tried to push the narrative of a genocide in relation to Balkan Turks. Presenting every relevant diff here would be redundant, but have a look at the comments of Ödegay31 and SamuelLion1877 in Talk:Persecution of Muslims during the Ottoman contraction ( EIA timeline), and their edits in Persecution of Muslims during the Ottoman contraction ( EIA timeline); or an edit by Safinazuyuyor in the same article ( diff). Safinazuyuyor made another similar edit in the article Balkan Wars, where they presented a view that the Balkan Wars constituted an "unrecognized genocide" ( diff). Furthermore, SamuelLion1877, along with another editor, supported, and significantly contributed to a POV fork with the title Ottoman Muslim genocide during the Balkan Wars (a couple similar titles that included the word "genocide" preceded this one), which was eventually draftified under the title of Draft:Massacres of Ottoman civilians during the Balkan Wars, following this AfD discussion. SamuelLion1877's edits in the latter article, further corroborate the possibility of a connection to Safinazuyuyor, who claimed to be a Bulgarian Turk; as seen for example in their first contribution to that article ( diff), as well as their largest one in terms of kilobytes (12,616 kB; diff).

I believe SamuelLion1877's activity indicates familiarity with Wikipedia, that wouldn't normally be expected from such a new user. Regardless, they recently received a 48-hour block for violating the three-revert rule ( block log); i don't think this was due to ignorance of the relevant policy, because prior to their violation they received a {{ uw-3rr}} notification ( diff), and even given a chance to rectify their mistake afterwards by an admin, but they stubbornly refused to do so ( diff by admin). Even if they aren't associated with Ödegay31, Safinazuyuyor, or both, there is still the possibility that they are with someone else from the same topic area. I was also suspicious of another blocked user, but not enough to include them in this report. Demetrios1993 ( talk) 02:27, 21 November 2023 (UTC) reply

Edit: I should also add that following the expiration of their 48-hour block, SamuelLion1877 was blocked again on 21 November, for an additional one week ( block log); their block expires on 28 November. There could be a potential association between them and 174.71.239.25, which on 23 November made a couple of edits that resemble the editing pattern of SamuelLion1877. Whoever is behind the IP is obviously monitoring the two articles that they edited; in Persecution of Muslims during the Ottoman contraction they reverted ( diff) an IP's change from eight hours earlier ( diff), while in Balkan Wars they removed a link to the non-existent section of § Atrocities and migrations, implying that this is only a temporary removal ( diff). It should be noted that it was SamuelLion1877 who attempted to create the aforementioned section and added that internal link a few days earlier ( diff), but it lacked consensus and was removed. In the case that they are associated, then SamuelLion1877 circumvented their block by using an IP sock. In my opinion, it is either them, or Yung Doohickey, who is a different editor that is active in both pages. Demetrios1993 ( talk) 02:18, 24 November 2023 (UTC) reply

Edit: Also, 2600:8801:7115:6800:60EA:4399:61BB:8A25 appears to be the same individual as the one behind 174.71.239.25; whoever that might be. Demetrios1993 ( talk) 05:08, 24 November 2023 (UTC) reply

Edit: Same with 172.222.204.104 and 2600:6C51:427F:2100:EC46:174F:F1BC:79F9; they added information about alleged atrocities by Bulgarian troops in Persecution of Muslims during the Ottoman contraction, which resembles the editing pattern of SamuelLion1877.
