Something seems a little odd here, in a possibly sock-ish way. On User:Diabedia ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs), Ben does basically a minor WP:PERSONAL [1], but Diabedia changes it to be homophobic [2] (instead of just removing it or complaining, as would be normal), then Ben restores the attack [3]. Added the blocked Mr username and his sock, due to the similar nonsense from Diabedia and Ben on their user pages and talk pages. It all just seems like a bunch of juvenile WP:NOTHERE behaviour, with hints of waddling and feathers, possibly even the sound of quacking. Murph9000 ( talk) 14:30, 27 September 2016 (UTC) reply

Already blocked Wubba dubb dubb as a troll, I'd just like to know if anyone can confirm for me if WDD is Diabedia. WDD edited at Tarafım, Anthem of the Republic of Dagestan, and National Anthem of the Republic of Dagestan (same articles as Diabedia and other socks of his) and left personal attacks on the talk pages of users who previously reverted Diabedia socks (which, looking over the archives, seems to be common behavior for Diabedia). First, note the name, a direct takeoff on a blocked account name. Second, see the entire revision history of Judaeo-Spanish starting on 20 December. The first IP edit was evidently trying to start an edit war around the appropriate renderings of "Judaeo-Spanish" in various alphabets, and I reversed to try to squelch. Subsequently, vandal started using the new sock account, while IP edits thereafter are from a responsible party trying to reverse. This is evidently a school account; see at User talk:StevenJ81#Edit at Judaeo-Spanish. StevenJ81 ( talk) 15:29, 21 December 2016 (UTC) reply

Although the preceding case ended in an indef for this user, I'd like the CU to go through. An IP user at this address is the one who tipped me off; if the banned user is originating from this school-based IP, the school involved may wish to address the matter separately. New, single-purpose accounts whose sole contributions are undoing Diabedia and or each other's edits, with similar summaries. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8], [9] [10], (see connection here as well: on User:Shibuyevo Zhangshulokikomav, they look out for "vandals" like Diabedia, yet on their previous account User:Шибуево Жаңшулокикомав, they were "friends" with Diabedia. I know this looks kind of strange, but self-reverting using separate good hand bad hand accounts is one of the oldest tricks in the book, so I suspect this is sockpuppetry. Not true. I finally updated my user page (see User:Shibuyevo Zhangshulokikomav) about that incident with Diabedia. About that incident, I first met him outside of Wikipedia then I helped him edit Wikipedia. After a while I was on a hiatus, and then when I came back, he was cheating edits and even began vandalizing Wikipedia. I didn't know about this until I came back (much to my dismay) but luckily, the administrators had blocked him already. Unfortunately, I still think he is still on the vibe of making sockpuppet accounts, so that's why I wrote on my userpage that I am looking out for vandals like Diabedia. This also prompted me to change my old user page, where I wrote I was "friends" with him back in July 2016, since that's no longer the case.

Speaking of Uej55EakI993VvXd1l4 and Losermeme, they may be sockpuppets of Diabedia. Very suspicious... Shibuyevo Zhangshulokikomav ( talk) 20:23, 7 February 2017 (UTC) reply

Seems to be a fairly obvious sock of this user. There are 28 intersections with this user and the master, along with similar behavioral patterns of vandalizing those articles. Their userpage also seems to coincide with a behavior pattern that disparages the master Diabedia. User also claims that Diabedia created Accelpilot311 and AccelPilot311 also claims to be Accelpilot247. Accelpilot247 also seems to be quite a fan of the master. • OK, I have now found time to do a fairly thorough check of the editing of Ninjoust and Чибуево Жаңшулокикомев. I am pretty certain that those two are not the same person, and I also think Чибуево Жаңшулокикомев is unlikely to be a sockpuppet of Diabedia. There are numerous differences, such as significantly different opinions, a different approach to other editors, different style of edit summary, and the fact that Diabedia has occasionally edited articles on subjects outside the range of interest of Diabedia and the known sockpuppets. I am aware that having sockpuppets disagree with one another, edit in different areas, and so on, is a common technique used by serial sockpuppeteers, but this one would have to be an exceptionally elaborately constructed fake, and it also contrasts with other sockpuppets where such sophisticated faking has been absent.
  • Ninjoust is a different matter. There are general stylistic similarities to Diabedia and known sockpuppets, such as edit summaries which are contemptuous towards other editors. There is overlap in editing interests in more than one area (a far more reliable indication of sockpuppetry than just having one interest in common): as well as editing on the subject of national anthems of various places, there is also a common interest in editing articles about states, administrative districts, etc, often former parts of the Soviet Union. For example, Ninjoust has edited Kermanshah Province, Kyakhtinsky District, and Kangavar County, while Diabedia has edited Beruniy District, Chimboy District, Daşoguz Region, and Ellikqala District, Accelpilot311 (by self-declaration the same person as CU-confirmed socks AgentXykrotos, Accelpilot247, and Accelpilot) has edited Buryatia and Altai Republic, EditPage has edited Muslyumovsky District, and so on. There are also some examples of editing which makes very similar or identical changes, such as this pair [22] [23] these three [24] [25] [26] and significant overlaps between these two edits [27] [28] which were made over a year apart. All things considered, I think there is enough evidence of sockpuppetry against Ninjoust that I would be just about willing to block, but I would like to consult a clerk as to whether he or she thinks a CheckUser would be justified, to make absolutely sure. Also, since previous CheckUsers have thrown up accounts which had not been suspected, a new CU might be useful in that way too. After making 6 edits he goes straight to my talk page and asks me to check the Chechen (?) IPA on some anthem page (see [34]). He then makes 4 or 5 further edits before I see his message on my talk page. See his contributions, the last edit he made at that time was either [35] or [36]. The point is that he made only 11-12 edits and 3 of them were to anthem articles (see [37], [38] and [39]) and two to Ey Iran (see [40] and [41]), so that's almost half of his edits. Notice how the first edit to Ey Iran mentions UniPers, which is mentioned multiple times on Lüboslóv Yęzýkin's talk page. I think that you're perfectly aware that the modus operandi of this strange man is to pretend that he's different sides of the same discussion.

I immediately became suspicious, because a) you can tell by my user page that I have nothing to do with the Chechen language and b) because I was reminded of the discussion I had with multiple sockpuppets of Diabedia on Lüboslóv's talk page, which was just about a month before ZD contacted me. I really dislike when someone treats me as if I were stupid, so I asked this guy how stupid did he think I was (see [42]). If that's a breach of WP:NPA, I apologize. However, something very useful came out of that. Here are two messages in which he tries to persuade me that he's not Diabedia, but in a very strange way. See for yourself: [43], [44].

I then told him to go away [45]. I apologize for not reporting this sooner, but I didn't have a lot of time yesterday (well, by my standards) and I chose to spend all my free time editing rather than reporting. Either way, I'm reporting him right now, which is just a day later. Anyway, he then sends me fake apologies ( [46]), which I immediately remove from my talk page ( [47]). Then, he posts two hilarious personal attacks that are a great proof of the fact that when we speak, we make a statement about ourselves rather than the person we're talking about. See [48] and [49]. This isn't the first time this guy is doing it, see the SI from 11 October 2016 ( click here). Mr KEBAB ( talk) 06:27, 2 December 2017 (UTC) reply

Suspected sockpuppets

As I was scrolling through many articles, I’ve noticed some aberrancy. Then I looked in the articles’ history and found tons of reversions and socks. I’ve definitely encountered multiple sock masters (such as PavelStaykov and WorldCreaterFighter), but this particular user seems to be a bigger issue. I’ve done a thorough check to see if there are anymore Diabedia-related issues, and I think I found more. I would like an admin to take a good look at this.

Elecognito ( talk · contribs) has made some disruptive edits, particularly in Anthem of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic. The user’s edit summaries are blatant indications of Diabedia’s behavior [50] [51] [52]. He impersonated Jimbo Wales on his talk page, but was eventually reverted [53]. And I found a duck in [54] [55].

Protouser ( talk · contribs). Almost a year ago, he edited the master’s talk page but was reverted a few days later [56]. He did the same in 170.24.136.3 ( talk · contribs · WHOIS) (an IP that had been used by the master. See the archive from 21 Dec 2016 [57]) [58]. I am surprised admins hadn’t blocked that account yet.

Арслан Туруханов ( talk · contribs). Same interests in anthems spanning Eurasia, adding WP:NOR content such as in [59], and reverting [60]. I see clear vandalism in [61], [62] and [63] (it seems possible sock “National anthem videos YouTube” exacerbated the situation [64] [65]).

Юсуф Өзтүрк ( talk · contribs). Although the user has made only 4 edits, there is enough evidence that Юсуф is a sockpuppet. First off, the name. It is an attempted rendering of the Turkish name Yusuf Öztürk into Cyrillic letters, using letters from Turkic languages of the former Soviet Union (which is a major interest of Diabedia). Then see the edit summary in [66]. These users also share a common interest in alphabets such as the IPA, as various socks of his tend to add IPA transcriptions in various articles. In İstiklal Marşı he edited the IPA [67] but was later reverted by Amateur55 ( talk · contribs) (who, generally speaking, seems to have a more sophisticated knowledge in the linguistic-related topic, if you compare with Diabedia). They are apparently so fixated on transliterations, as seen in [68] [69], where the user alters the official spelling or adds unrecognized transliteration schemes (possibly his own). A few earlier examples by the master: [70] [71] [72]

National anthem videos YouTube ( talk · contribs). Again, same obsession with lyrics of anthems (with all of them being Turkic nations in this case). Has an interest in reverting ScrapIronIV, who was removing the lyrics to adhere to WP:DUE and WP:OR. Also likes to impose his own transliterations. His username gives a huge indication.

Please also block Flamiasco ( talk · contribs) and Psychondria ( talk · contribs). Their behaviors nearly match Elecognito ( talk · contribs), if not, each other.

Andrey Sabirov ( talk · contribs) and Andrey Pogadayev ( talk · contribs). Same interest in using similar own transcriptions [73] [74] [75] [76] (note the revert). Self-reverting his own socks at [77] and [78], with nearly identical edit summaries. I’ve read in the archives about Diabedia self-reverting his socks so I guess this isn’t the first time. And apparently, he likes to “chat” with his socks [79] (which is also common behavior for Diabedia. See the previous archives). Also the user Andrey Pogadayev wrote on his userpage that he is “against Ninjoust/Diabedia vandalism” and is used as an “anti-vandalist account” ( [ sic]) [80]. Didn’t sock Shibuyevo Zhangshulokikomav ( talk · contribs) also do a similar thing, as in [81], where he wrote on his userpage that he is “against” vandalism, especially directed at this one particular master (see the archive on 7 Feb 2017 [82])? Now this is becoming oddly suspicious.

And lastly *sigh*, Шибуево Жаңшулокикомев ( talk · contribs) and Şibuyevo Jañşulokikomev ( talk · contribs). Judging by the usernames, I would suggest that those usernames are taken from Шибуево Жаңшулокикомав ( talk · contribs) and Shibuyevo Zhangshulokikomav ( talk · contribs), which seem fairly obvious.

These accounts all seem a little too suspicious to me, so I am requesting a CheckUser to confirm all this. I may have missed some, but I hope I covered most of them. He may not be a very smart person, but he does exhibit some odd behaviors.

  • I've recently noticed this user and I agree with Kashmiri that the behavioural connection is strong. The only thing stopping me from filing an SPI case myself was the fact that the user account has been registered for quite a while, and hence if there were a technical connection, it would have probably come up in the recent CU checks on Diabedia. One the other hand, the topic area – languages of the former Soviet territores (esp. the phonologies and writing systems), and the anthems of the republics – seems full of suspicious users. There's Diabedia with their retinue of socks, but there are other sockmasters (like Uhj122, Aeþ Eźabrekın or that one), as well as quite a few editors that have not (yet?) been linked to any of these, but who display the same penchant for subtle language-related hoaxes. I suspect many of these are related, but probably not all: I imagine it might be a case of a group of like-minded people, some sort of club whose members apparently take a kick out of making stuff up and sneaking it into our articles. – Uanfala (talk) 00:03, 4 July 2018 (UTC) reply

I blocked Учхљёная for evading their block as 149, who had previously been making the same edits as Учхљёная and was inexplicably using the letter ğ in otherwise-normal English in edit summaries, much like Учхљёная did above and has done extensively. When Учхљёная was blocked three days later, they began very prominently and aggressively using the letter ğ on their talk page in the same way, even refusing requests from administrators to knock it off. 149 continued editing after this point, and I blocked Учхљёная indefinitely for evading their block. It was obvious that it was the same person, but only became a clear offense onece the account was blocked and the IP continued editing. I subsequently blocked multiple other IPs and accounts as socks of Учхљёная (see other SPI), but during the course of this, two of them self-outed as socks of Diabedia, including 149 (see above diffs). Self-outing is consistent with Diabedia's known behavior. In my subsequent behavioral assessments, aimed at separating the Diabedia socks from the Учхљёная socks, it became clear to me that the two are behaviorally indistinguishable. Учхљёная's explanation for what appeared to be a clear connection was quite simply that they were framed by Diabedia, which isn't something we would be encouraged to go along with per DUCK, but even if we choose to believe it, still wouldn't explain why they would have spontaneously become involved in a dozen articles that Diabedia was known to be socking in, edit warring with both Diabedia socks and established editors to reinstate content Diabedia is known for fixating on. (Edit warring between his own socks is consistent with known behavior from Diabedia as well.) This user can be seen crossing paths with, and both edit warring with, and in support of, other Diabedia socks on a wide variety of articles, including a majority of articles created by Diabedia, and always reverts to restore content that Diabedia socks are known for adding, and it goes back as far as March 2018, when they jumped in to re-add content that was originally added by a Diabedia sock and subsequently removed. The username, the time of activation, the overwhelming overlap in areas of involvement, the overwhelming overlap in specific behaviors seen in edits, and the overwhelming amount of direct interactions with Diabedia socks are simply too much for this to not be a DUCK situation, even by a stretch of the imagination. I'm not really familiar with Diabedia, but this looks suspicious. After exactly 10 mostly pointless edits to get autoconfirmed on January 1st, they began today with about 40 rapid edits, including transliterations in national anthem pages [94], [95], re-writing a conversation between the master and their own sock, on their talk page [96], and removing various other comments there. Mixed in with various useful (or pointless) edits, also adding various IP templates including {{ipsock|Diabedia|blocked=yes}} here [97] and on several others - from what I read above, apparently they often engage in self-outing. If so, I guess those IPs should be looked at too, though at least one of them - which I had made an ANI report about, doesn't really seem to fit the pattern. -- IamNotU ( talk) 13:39, 11 January 2019 (UTC) IamNotU ( talk) 13:39, 11 January 2019 (UTC) reply

Weird talk-page stuff on 69.196.89.175, where the user explicitly claims to be Diabedia. [98] Later on, first they complain about their articles being deleted, then they make claims of being related to LTA Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Szm020730 and posting of personal information. [99]

The next couple of IP addresses mostly make disruptive changes to anthems of the former USSR (usually the lyrics and table formatting) [100] [101] [102] and the BGN/PCGN romanization of Russian [103] Whether or not they are meatpuppets or sockpuppets, as Diabedia stated that they might potentially be related, they do appear to be very suspicious. A pattern of edits altering the romanization of Cyrillic (and other scripts, mostly in ex-USSR) to their own preference by two IP addresses, on some of the same articles previously edited by Diabedia sock Индира Задорожная ( talk · contribs · logs). A couple of typical examples:

  • Alyona Alyona
    • Индира Задорожная 14:18, 16 August 2023 ( diff)
    • 109.252.104.231 18:06, 14 August 2023 ( diff‎)
  • Great Patriotic War (term)
    • Индира Задорожная 2:39, 9 August 2023 ( diff)‎
    • 46.39.56.83 09:36, 17 September 2023 ( diff‎)
    • 109.252.104.231 16:13, 17 September 2023 ( diff‎)

But also:

  1. these 19 contributions by 109.252.104.231 (some of these are also POV pro-Russian edits), and
  2. these 32 contributions by 46.39.56.83 (all of these fit the idiosyncratic romanization pattern).

Some articles, such as Lolita Milyavskaya and Great Patriotic War (term) were edited by both IPs on the same day. Rsk6400 has been active in this area, and may be interested in this report. Mathglot ( talk) 00:02, 18 September 2023 (UTC) reply

  • Doubtlessly Diabedia/Учхљёная. No other editor pushes southern Slavic notation as "transcription" for all the languages of the former Soviet Union. That said, both seem to be addresses of public hotspots, and the master hops IP addresses every day or couple of days, so a long block would not only be ineffective but may be counterproductive. A standard 1-day / 1-week block is all what's needed here. — kashmīrī  TALK 07:15, 18 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Quack quack!! Adding lyrics to articles on national anthems of former Soviet republics; obsessed with transcription/transliteration. Activated around the time when Diabedia's last sockpuppet was indeffed. Impressive interaction list with master (did not check with socks). Still, requesting CU despite behavioural evidence, since I am not familiar with this topic area and consequently can't estimate the probability of a false positive. — kashmīrī  TALK 22:45, 3 July 2018 (UTC) reply

  • Well, it certainly looks like that, doesn't it. I think your accusation may be in bad faith, but I'm afraid I can't do much to express my sovereiğnty other than point-out that I didn't join Wikipedia until February of 2017 and say that I am, in fact, a real and independent person. I will acknowledge that I did use IP-addresses 99.203.1.56, 69.89.102.189, 99.203.128.254, and 99.203.0.55 to edit my userspace pages (most notably this one) on a few occasions, but that was purely accidental. I'll also acknowledge that I did personally know User:Aeþ Eźabrekın, but we were not part of a club of any sort and I didn't know what he was doing, for the most-part. • User is appealing to other admins off-wiki, so I will go into some more detail regarding this for any reviewing admins.
