All are present on Abdullah Öcalan and on other articles relating to Kurdish areas and political parties in Iraq and Turkey. Common traits are treating Iraqi Kurdistan or Kurdistan as if they were nation states, replacing the actual countries in question. Bolding of names like Iraqi Kurdistan. Changing the categories to certain ones they approve of (e.g. Yazidi). Adding and readding an infobox to Abdullah Öcalan. Removing Arabic spelling and pronunciation and other references to ethnic groups other than Kurds (not all have done that). Also note similarity in name between KomaMelek and KomaPizza. Not sure that TVLoverboy is the ultimate puppetmaster but I have put this in his name as that seems to be the oldest user of the group. The sad thing is that there is clearly some wiki skill and some ability to do valid edits here but it is all compromised by a POV agenda and the willingness to engage in sockpuppetry. • There's also two IPs making the same edits, 74.198.148.77, 64.110.203.196, both of which are in Canada. I second Rigal's comments above. TVLoverboy got a 24 hour block for disruptive editing, which was lenient because he had tried to engage me on my talk page. However after that, and many subsequent warnings, the editing continued without any change. Shadowjams ( talk) 02:04, 9 April 2010 (UTC) reply

Yes. Its another one. Note the message he put on the user page (now removed), which is the same as some of the other socks used. Also there is the insistence on removing Arabic names and denying national borders. This guy just doesn't quit. He is now on his 7th sockpuppet report! He clearly sees the accounts as disposable and is willing to keep on registering them until somebody finds a way to stop him. He is relentless in his POV agenda in which he imagines he can help the Kurdish cause by pretending that a Kurdish state already exists. It seems that he thinks that putting stuff in Wikipedia makes it closer to becoming true. The fact that he gets reverted quickly doesn't put him off at all. He is disrupting a large number of articles on an almost daily basis and consuming the time of many Wikipedians who could be doing something more constructive than clearing up after him. Nothing else works so I fully agree than a hardblock of the IP should be considered. The only reason not to go ahead with this would be if it is shared with any legitimate users. Perhaps a formal ban on BarzanPDK18 is needed too. -- DanielRigal ( talk) 08:02, 12 April 2010 (UTC) reply

  • Yes. That certainly looks like him. The removal of the (uncontroversially correct) note that Turkey is partially in Europe is something that he has done before, even though it serves no obvious purpose promoting his cause. I get the impression that he is probing more gently now trying to see if he can get anything in. Of course, the POV is still there too (Kurdish flag insertion) and I don't see any desire to reform, just a desire not to get caught. I can't see any way to avoid having to block his IP addresses. -- DanielRigal ( talk) 09:33, 20 April 2010 (UTC) reply

This user shows exactly the same pattern of editing as all the previous blocked socks of this blocked user on mostly the same articles: Kurdish Nationalist POV, insertion of Kurdish flags, bolding of certain Kurdish names (e.g "PKK"), changing categories, removing valid content and templates. Refer to edits by previous confirmed socks for more detail of the editing pattern. This looks like yet another sockpuppet for BarzanPDK18. Note the preference for the PNG version of the Kurdish flag over the SVG one and the attempts to rewrite Iraqi Kurdistan greatly de-emphasising its existence as part of Iraq. Also removal of templates that link it to Iraq topics. With only three edits, this one doesn't quack as loudly as his average sock but my theory is that he is probing to see if he can get anywhere by being a bit less blatant in his POV editing campaign. Clearly he has no intention of stopping. I think we need to block his IP range before he does learn to fly under our radar and start getting his stuff in.

information Administrator note Both accounts blocked per WP:DUCK and self-declared. A CU with an IP block or a range block may be helpful in this case, if a range can be safely determined. -- Gogo Dodo ( talk) 06:34, 27 April 2010 (UTC) reply

Clerk endorsed range blocking is probably not going to be possible here, as BarzanPDK18 tends to hop around on their range too much. However, endorsed for a sleeper check on the accounts listed above, which are pretty obviously related per 1 2 & 3. Thanks Spitfire Tally-ho! 11:43, 27 April 2010 (UTC) reply

I haven't seen him using sleepers. He tends to register an account and use it right away. If a range block can't work, is there anything else we can do? He shows no signs of giving up and going away of his own accord. Should somebody contact his ISP, or would that be a waste of time? -- DanielRigal ( talk) 11:52, 27 April 2010 (UTC) reply
Previous checks have turned up sleepers, and it's been a while since a check was done. Contacting his ISP would technically be possible, but would need to be done independently of SPI, WP:ABUSE doesn't seem to be very active anymore, so I'm not quite sure how you would set about contacing his ISP, furthermore, I'm skeptical that doing so would achieve very much. This seems to be this blocked user and repeat puppetmaster coming back for another try after lying low for a while. Note the insistence on removing the perfectly uncontroversial note that Turkey is partially in Europe from Western Asia (which is a signature quirk he has), his preference for the PNG rather than SVG version of the Kurdish flag on Ey Reqîb (another signature quirk) and his general editing pattern in which he pretends that Kurdistan is already a country (distinct from the stance you would normally expect from a Kurdish Nationalist, i.e that is isn't yet but should become a country). He even uploaded a map of its supposed borders. His wiki skills are improving and his editing style is less obvious than it was. He has made some valid redirects, but his content remains highly POV. Rather than unpick the good and bad bits I have just reverted most of it.

Note 1: Checkuser requested partially for confirmation that his really is him and not another like-minded Kurdish Nationalist, and partially to check for sleepers as he created this account 6 days before first using it. If checkuser is inappropriate then please disregard and treat as a normal report.

Note 2: He seems to be honing his wiki skills somewhere. Perhaps somebody with the relevant language skills might want to check that he isn't putting similar POV material into any other language Wikipedias. -- DanielRigal ( talk) 13:45, 25 May 2010 (UTC) reply

Here we go again. More flag fiddling. More treating Kurdistan as if it was a nation state. Similar editing style, with some variation. Also overwriting valid disambiguation pages with redirects to his favourite subjects as if the other items on the disambiguation simply don't matter. Similar interest in Turkish, Iraqi and Kurdish language TV stations. Has used socks with names like "SomethingLover" before.

Can we consider upping his block to a formal ban? That will make it clear that he is to be reverted on sight even when his edits look defensible, as a few of them sometimes do. This might be helpful as he is now making new articles like Tishk TV which it is not obvious how to deal with if they make some claim to notability. -- DanielRigal ( talk) 09:14, 3 June 2010 (UTC) reply

This seems to be our old friend again. His style is generally much more subtle now (with a few exceptions), so I am requesting a checkuser to confirm that it really is him. Even so, tell-tale signs remain: Adding category Yazidi to Kurdish articles that don't even mention the subject, removing mention of Iraq, removal of referenced content, and a pointless insistence on the PNG version of the Kurdish flag over the SVG version.

I am not reverting him completely this time as some of the edits are so minor as to be inoffensive, however I am worried that this might encourage him to keep up his POV editing at a low level. I would welcome advice on the best approach here.

Reasons for checkuser:

  • To confirm identity, particularly of the IP which does not have enough edits to be sure just from the style
  • To investigate why the IP range block is not effective
  • To sweep for sleepers

This user is involved in POV editing in which they try to pretend that Kurdistan is already a nation state, as did BarzanPDK18 and their many sockpuppets. What makes me link this user to that sockpuppeteer account is that they show a peculiar desire to replace the SVG version of the Kurdish flag with a PNG one (e.g. [6]) as well as the same political agenda. Initially I thought this user was just somebody else with similar Kurdish nationalist sympathies who could do with advice on POV editing (which I tried to give) but the peculiarity of the flag changing makes me now think it is actually the same person, back after a long break but without any improvement in their understanding of NPOV. • I don't relish having to pick over the diffs from all that old stuff but then I guess nobody else does either. You can get a flavour of the pattern of previous behaviour from the archived sockpuppet reports. Let's see if I can point out a few specific diffs and other things.
- Here is a shared pattern of removing Arabic (and other language names) to leave only Kurdish ones. SerokKurdi: [7], [8] BarzanPDK18: [9]
- Here is a shared pattern of changing location names to Kurdistan or parts of Kurdistan instead of the nation state they are currently part of. SerokKurdi: [10] BarzanPDK18: [11]
- Here is a shared pattern of fiddling with the Kurdish flag to change it to PNG. SerokKurdi: [12] EsmerXan (previously identified as a sock of BarzanPDK18): [13]
One other thing to look for if doing a checkuser is whether the IP address is in Canada. I think all the old IP socks were.
Sorry if this is not as comprehensive as you might like. It would take me hours to cross reference all the edits by all the old socks. Is this enough to persuade you that there is something fishy enough to investigate further? DanielRigal ( talk) 21:42, 14 October 2014 (UTC) reply

This one quacks unambiguously so I have already reverted all his edits. -- DanielRigal ( talk) 13:24, 25 April 2010 (UTC) reply

Spitfire Tally-ho! 12:00, 27 April 2010 (UTC) reply
Thanks. That's sort of what I expected. I guess we just have to keep on keeping on. -- DanielRigal ( talk) 12:08, 27 April 2010 (UTC) reply

No sleepers found. I have placed a rather small range block. This block has the advantage of having no collateral damage, so I was able to place a hard block... but it may or may not contain BarzanPDK18. -- Deskana (talk) 02:15, 3 May 2010 (UTC) reply

I note that edit summary patterns are identical, but common.
