Moriori is closing in on 2500 edits since late 2003 over a wide range of topics (many of them related to New Zealand, but everything from Extraterrestrial life to U-Boats), and nicely divided between article, talk and wiki (see here). A fair number of the recent edits have been minor, but there are enough larger edits, too. A regular attender at VFD, a reverter of vandalism, and in general terms “one of the good guys”. It’s about time we had more tangata whenua as admins, too! Grutness... wha? 02:04, 13 July 2005 (UTC) reply

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here:
Thanks Grutness, yes, I accept the nomination. I have an unexpected problem I need to pay attention to right now, so it will be 14 or so hours before I can get to the generic interview queries. It is 7.56pm (Weds) where I am at the moment. Cheers. Moriori 07:57, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

  1. Support. I've seen Moriori's edits here ever since I got involved and they've always been good.- gadfium 02:11, 13 July 2005 (UTC) reply
  2. Support. Seems to be a good editor and I trust the judgement of the nominator. -- Sn0wflake 02:43, 13 July 2005 (UTC) reply
  3. A definite support for this candidate. He has been here for over one and a half years, which is more than plenty of time for me to consider this contributor "mature." Denelson83 04:30, 13 July 2005 (UTC) reply
  4. Support. 2500 edits over ~18 months seems slightly slim to me, but the quality of those edits more than makes up for any such concerns, IMO. – Seancdaug 04:51, July 13, 2005 (UTC)
  5. Support. A good well rounded editor. (Donovan| Geocachernemesis| Interact) 05:16, 13 July 2005 (UTC) reply
  6. Support Half heartedly (I'm just kidding). I think Moriori had done a good job at making wikipedia a high quality encyclopedia. And Moriori does NOT seem like a person who will abuse his/hers position once an administrator (unsigned by User:Exir Kamalabadi)

  13. Support, although why a user has made so few "nicely balanced" edits makes him a good candidate is beyond me. I think mine are "nicely balanced" as well, and nobody's bothered to use it as a rationale to nominate me for adminship. My support vote is based entirely upon quality of edits and the fact that this user has not become belligerantly entangled in disputes. (Note: I'm currently entangled in a rather massive dispute, although I hope it's not as a belligerant...) Tomer TALK 07:21, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
Perhaps I should explain my comment - what I mean was that Moriori has done edits to the article space, user talk, wiki-space, categories, templates, and in doing so has interacted with a lot of other users.... A lot of admin candidates don't have such a rounded view of all facets of Wiki operation. Grutness... wha?

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. I am particularly interested in fighting the vandals, and taking part in general admin chores. I don't know it all, but have read the recommended items about deletion policy/process etc.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I wouldn't claim standouts, but some I was largely responsible for are Pania, Kerikeri, Bob Charles and Mount Taranaki legend etc. I have provided many of my own images to illustrate articles. The one at Tui was particularly rewarding, because it is extremely difficult to get the right light to show the colours of the bird, (most people believe it is a jet black colour).
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A. Originally not very well, but one learns by experience. Very little fazes me now, but when I see fact deliberately replaced by unsubstantiated inference, I will fight the good fight for the integrity of Wikipedia, as I trust all admins would.
