Deathphoenix ( talk · contribs) – I have had the pleasure of working with Deathphoenix for several months now. I was introduced to him through our mutual interest in the Harry Potter WikiProject, and I have continued to encounter him contributing positively throughout the encyclopedia. Deathphoenix has been active on Wikipedia since December 2004, currently has over 4,500 edits, and also maintains accounts on Meta, Wiktionary, WikiBooks, Ultronomicon, and Memory Alpha. Deathphoenix has actively participated in AfD, Deletion Review, Village Pump, WP:AN/I, VIP, and RfA discussion, vandalism reversion, and contributes frequently to Barnstar discussion. He is very familiar with copyright issues, and his knowledge of these areas is of great value. He is also very active in contributing to Wikipedia's information on topics pertaining to Canada. It is my sincere pleasure to nominate Deathphoenix for Adminship. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 17:59, 15 December 2005 (UTC) reply

I'm sure we'd all like to know what the poor experience was so we could consider it... Dmcdevit· t 06:43, 17 December 2005 (UTC) reply
Probably related to Ashlee Simpson or Autobiography, though I have tried to be fair there. As for my name, the short answer would be that I love the phoenix myth, but many people often forget that in order for a phoenix to be born, that phoenix must die. To have life, you must have death. A longer answer would be that since I have seen my fair share of death from a young age (including one of my best friends when I was 11 or so), I am naturally quite interested in the subject. Also, I love the phoenix, and my favourite BattleMech, by sheer coincidence, is the Phoenix Hawk (but not so much the Phoenix Hawk LAM). -- D e ath phoenix 06:58, 17 December 2005 (UTC) reply
To be honest, my memory is a little hazy. I basically just remember a negative association with your user name. I'm sure an apology would be sufficient for me to withdraw my vote. Everyking 04:29, 18 December 2005 (UTC) reply
I think it's a bit unusual to ask for an apology for something you can't remember. I don't mean that in any disrespect, I'm sure if Deathphoenix knew what had offended you he'd be willing to discuss it, ongoing RfA or not. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 04:42, 18 December 2005 (UTC) reply
I mean, just a general apology for fighting and all. Everyking 05:18, 18 December 2005 (UTC) reply
Sure thing. To be honest, I don't recall ever actually fighting you, but if I did, then I'm sorry, because that's not my way. This apology isn't to have you withdraw your vote, because it's your prerogative to vote in any way you want. My concern is that you feel slighted by my past actions, when I always strive to be fair and not vindictive. If I came across that way, I am sorry. -- D e ath phoenix 06:27, 18 December 2005 (UTC) reply
Fine, vote withdrawn. Everyking 06:54, 18 December 2005 (UTC) reply
    Thank you. -- D e ath phoenix 17:02, 18 December 2005 (UTC) reply
Just want to note that I find an oppose vote based on something so vague as a 'recollection of a negative association' quite offensive and disruptive. I've seen it from Everyking several times before - it smacks of great immaturity, to say that you oppose someone's RFA because you think they might have been mean to you in some way at some time in the past. To demand an apology for imagined slights in return for changing a vote is not civil behaviour by a long stretch. Worldtraveller 03:02, 20 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

Note: I would like to point out that I don't really do much with the other Wiki accounts except for Ultronomicon, which isn't affiliated with Wikimedia in any way. I am an admin there, though most of what I do as an admin is deleting copyvio/unsourced images and blocking spambots. -- D e ath phoenix 04:22, 16 December 2005 (UTC) reply

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Wikipedia backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
A. I used to close votes back when the page was still called WP:VFD/Old, and I'd like to contribute by closing votes on WP:AFD/Old and WP:MFD, this time for deletes as well as the keeps and merges. Despite my lack of recent activity there, I'm still quite familiar with the process, and I was willing to close some votes that were not so clear cut. After some experience, I'd also like to close votes on WP:DR or fulfil any requests for the content of deleted articles for information purposes (I used to make many such requests before voting on that page).
Related to that, I'd also like to clear up CSDs. I am quite familiar with most of the General-, Article-, and Redirect-related CSD specifications (though not so much with the others), and I know to report non-CSDs to WP:AFD.
I've kept enough tabs on admin actions to know when a vandal block is appropriate, and for how long (depending on whether it's a school or AOL IP, for instance). I'd definitely make use of the rollback button and block vandals when they've continued vandalising shortly after a test3 or test4.
Beyond that, I'd like to gain more experience as an admin before I attempt other actions that require such experience.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I freely admit to not writing works of brilliant prose, but I'm most proud of my moderate work on Lutz Long (expanding it from a stub to a moderately-sized article), Copeland (band) (rescuing it from a likely AfD to a workable article), Gwen M. Boniface (my first try in writing a biographical article from scratch), and on the Canadian elections charts (an effort started by another user to convert Canadian elections charts to a readable and consistent format).
I also put in a lot of time to Harry Potter-related articles as a member of its WikiProject, though my effort there is definitely not what you'd call brilliant prose. In this WikiProject, I am most proud of the efforts I put into shrinking down the large plot synopsis of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from 578 words to a much leaner 299. It's crept back up to almost 500 words again, but at least it is now (relatively) free of details that don't need to be in a short plot summary.
Outside of articles, I am especially proud of my work on the RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar, which has seen quite a lot of use on Wikipedia.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A. I've gotten into plenty of situations that could become conflicts, but I don't think I've ever escalated to that level. Iasson's probably the closest I've ever gotten to being truly annoyed at someone. I have rubbed more than a few people the wrong way with my recent efforts on the Harry Potter WikiProject when trying to remove fan-based detailed edits or speculation. If someone takes offense at my actions, I try to discuss the matter on the talk pages. If I perform an edit that another user reverts, but I disagree with that revert, I will not revert it back. Instead, I bring it up on the article talk page (in this, I try to adhere to the WP:1RR guideline before I realised there even was a 1RR guideline). You'll more likely find me discussing my points on a talk page than getting into edit wars in the main articlespace.
Other than that, I always keep in mind that I don't own any edits I make, and that people editing my own edits are peer editors. Being a technical writer has given me some thick skin with respect to peer editors.

  1. Poor experience dealing with this user. Also, what does the user name refer to? Everyking 05:35, 17 December 2005 (UTC) reply
