The Durability of the DVD Disc

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen

I have tried to find out how long the life span of a DVD (a movie disc) is. Most multimedia experts seem to be sure, that the life span of a Blu-ray Disc is around 50-100 years, yet they seem to be uncertain about the persistence of DVDs, with some people claiming they live to around 30 years, while others have said that they last at least 100 years. I was wondering whether there are some scientific informations around about the expected lifespan of a DVD.

Thank you for your answers

Short version: you see different values because lifespans are very different for the different kinds of media lumped into "DVD". This is a pretty nice summary and appears reliable. Matt Deres ( talk) 21:48, 5 January 2018 (UTC) reply
Matt Deres is right that some differences are because what kind of disk you use can matter, the storing conditions would certainly matter too, and the burner hardware and the speed you use for writing may matter to a lesser amount. But there's also the problem that DVDs haven't existed for long enough, so we simply haven't had the time to perform experiments about what happens to a DVD after 30 years. – b_jonas 16:01, 9 January 2018 (UTC) reply
Well that applies to a heck of a lot of things even if it's more acute for optical media given we often have no real data. Accelerated aging is generally used to try and predict lifespans for optical media, as it is for other things including paper although how reliable it is depends how accurately the techniques used actually replicate normal aging and how good any extrapolation is. Looking for Songwriting/Production Credits for MTV: TRL Christmas

Hello everyone! I have recently done work on the article on MTV: TRL Christmas. I have expanded the article with all of the resources that I could about the album and I have updated the lead and the infobox. I plan on adding an audio sample (and maybe an image if I could think of a good option) and doing a copyedit (as I primarily worked on the material over a few days), but before I do that I would ideally like to complete all of the information for the album's track listing.

I was thinking about nominating this for GAN, but I unfortunately could not find any information online about the songwriters for the following two tracks ("Christmas Wish" by Angela Via and "Snow Angel" by Little-T And One Track Mike) and I also could not locate any information on the producers for the songs either. This information would obviously be necessary to get it up to the status of a GA. I do not have the album (and I have no intentions of purchasing it just to complete the article) so I was wondering if anyone out there could help locate the information on the songwriters/producers. Either way, I improved on the article a lot so if I cannot find the information, then someone in the future may pick up where I left off with this one. Thank you in advance, and have a wonderful rest of your day and/or night! Aoba47 ( talk) 22:33, 5 January 2018 (UTC) reply

  • Thank you for the response, but respectfully, none of those links answer my question. The AllMusic links to the individuals songs does not provide any information who actually wrote or produced the track. The AllMusic link for the album just includes a listing of credits and personnel for the entire album, and does not match producer to the individual songs. It also does not match the songwriting credits to the individual songs either so it is not much help. I have also already included the AllMusic link for the album credits into the article.
