January 24 Information

we couldn't save your file to pdf/docx this time

I am posting the below question for another user, I do not have a smart phone, and am hence clueless. μηδείς ( talk) 02:40, 24 January 2016 (UTC) reply

"I use an iPhone 4S running iOS 8.3, and I have recently created a Google account. I downloaded the Google Docs App and I uploaded a word document to my account. It's all fine until I try to share that document with someone else. The "share" icon appears in light grey while the rest options remain black. So I cannot share the document. When I go to the convert to pdf/docx it says "we couldn't save your file to pdf/docx this time". Does anyone have any idea of what might this problem be? Is it possible that I also might need to download the Google Drive app for me to be able to share files through Google Docs?"

Yeah, sounds like you need the Google Drive app. The Quixotic Potato ( talk) 05:27, 24 January 2016 (UTC) reply
AFAIK, a new out of the box iPhone doesn't have shared storage that all apps can read and write to. See this: [1] Each app contains its own data storage, and will only be able to share it with other apps that are designed to know it exists. Google Drive must be performing that shared-storage function for other Google apps. If you plug an un-jailbroken iPhone into your computer, the only "drive" that shows up is the camera roll. 94.12.81.251 ( talk) 18:39, 24 January 2016 (UTC) reply
I hate it when error messages don't tell you WHY something happened or didn't happen. StuRat ( talk) 19:05, 24 January 2016 (UTC) reply

Thanks, I have passed on the updated information, oddly enough, it is all Greek to me. μηδείς ( talk) 05:00, 27 January 2016 (UTC) reply
