From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Wikipedia:WikiProject [Name]" current acts as a namespace for Wikiprojects. We are interested in finding out if a) people like the idea of shortening it, and b) like one of the suggested alternatives, which are:

Support

  1. Easier to use, type, memorize, reference.
  2. Increases visibility of Projects.
  3. Integrates projects,
  4. Better serves as a portal for collabration.

Compromises

Use [[Project:[Name]]] as a shortcut to [[Wikipedia:[Name]]] and use Wikipedia as the project namespace (instead of Wikipedia:WikiProject).

Objections

  1. Solution in search of a problem. How is "Wikiproject:RAIL" any "easier to use, type, memorize, reference" than "WP:RAIL"? If anything, it will make the interface more cumbersome and less intuitive, since the obvious abbreviation for WikiProject is WP:, but that's already taken. –  iridescent 15:19, 28 August 2010 (UTC) reply

  4. Was about to say the same thing as Iridescent. Creates more of a problem than it eliminates. EricLeb01 ( Page | Talk) 14:31, 4 September 2010 (UTC) reply
  5. Agree, the trouble of moving all the pages outweighs any benefit of a shorter name.— Chris! c/ t 00:44, 6 September 2010 (UTC) reply
  6. Oppose changing the colour of the bikeshed.--  Forty two  11:13, 6 September 2010 (UTC) reply
  7. Oppose - It will take way too much work. All it will accomplish is we wont have to type WP: before the WikiProject. -- Alpha Quadrant ( talk) 17:50, 14 September 2010 (UTC) reply

Proposal needs more work: I like the idea of a WikiProject namespace, but we need to figure out what the alias will be. Maybe PR? — Waterfox ( talk) 10:26, 13 September 2010 (UTC) reply
