Wikipedia is an encyclopedia building project. Yes we serve the purpose of community and fun, but I believe, (as so do others) Wikipedia is not the place for userboxes. I have userboxes, yes; but only wikipedia related ones, which should be the only userboxes on this website. If you read WP:NOT, you will see under one of the sections that wikipedia is not a personal web host nor a myspace. Userboxes do the exact function of this, they make userpage into a myspace, and really userspace should only be about what users do on wikipedia, not what they do and are intrested in, in personal life. As this contradicts to the rules itself. Generally all userboxes except wikipedia and wikiproject ones should be removed, because myspace and userpage decorating is not what we do. Encyclopedia building is what this is all about, and I am sure others agree. Userboxes should be only to show what people do and believe about wikipedia, not real life and political nonsense. • Strong Keep - Project has 385 members. (I counted). Also, there is a utility to some individual userboxes, as they can provide information which may be relevant to wikipedia, but may not currently relate to any specific project. Also, there is the possibility that one contributes to articles without formally joining a WikiProject. In fact, several people use these sorts of non-project "identification" boxes. We are not fully deleting the project here I want to change it, so it is more encyclopedic, and less, myspace like.... The sunder king 20:41, 31 July 2007 (UTC) reply

If you don't want to delete it, why nominate it for deletion? Changes to the project should be discussed on its talk page. (By the way, I think redirecting it to Wikipedia:Userboxes might be the best solution - there's no reason to have a project for userspace content.)-- B 22:09, 31 July 2007 (UTC) reply
  • Keep We can do one of two things. We can delete all (or almost all) of the thousands of userboxes that have been developed over the last three years or so. I don't like the idea, and I know that many users feel strongly that userboxes allow users some latitude in expressing themselves. Or we can have a Wikiproject to improve userboxes. You see on the Wikiproject page that they try to remove fair use images from userboxes. Great! It can be argued that a lot of pursuits on Wikipedia are, to varying degrees, a waste of time. This Wikiproject, though, is trying to improve Wikipedia, or at least is not causing any harm. Shalom Hello 00:59, 1 August 2007 (UTC) reply
  • Keep This is not the place to change the policy on userboxes, and that seems to be the tendency of this nom. . DGG ( talk) 07:37, 1 August 2007 (UTC) reply
  • I don't like userboxes. There, I said it. However, I think that since they have broad community support we should at least work on improving them. Just because are an encyclopedia does not mean we should totally divorce ourselves from helping other editors with their user pages. More importantly, MfD is not the venue for improvements to a project. -- Haemo 09:09, 1 August 2007 (UTC) reply

I am afraid I have messed up doing this. I just wanted non-wikipedia related userboxes removed as its an encyclopedia building project. I have nominated the wrong page, and the wrong thing. Sorry. Withdrew the nomination. The sunder king 12:04, 1 August 2007 (UTC) reply
