Portal:Stamford

This portal is too narrow for scope for Stamford, and it contains a lot of red links. JJ98 ( Talk) 19:46, 26 December 2010 (UTC) reply

  • Speedy delete so incomplete that it qualifies as a test page. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • ( Otters want attention) 18:27, 27 December 2010 (UTC) reply
OK perhaps you would do the featured wildlife" section? Rich  Farmbrough, 19:01, 27 December 2010 (UTC). reply
There's a lot to do and it's not anything like finished. Hence redlinks. You would be most welcome to pitch in (Stamford does have interesting wildlife, that was just a humorous example however). In terms of scope, please have a look at the related wikiproject. While Stamford is a fairly small town, it has a documented history going back well over a thousand years, as well as notable archaeological finds from previous eras and pre-historic times. Stamford was one of the fyfe towns of the Danelaw, alter one of the sefyn towns, and stood right on the boundary. It played a role in the wars of the roses, the civil war, parliament was held there. Stamford was a home to a number of medieval monasteries and convents, and was the seat from which the Bishop-Princes of Durham controlled their southern estates. It has links with Oxford university, being the refuge of the fleeing dissenters, and almost the new home for the university. It is the site of an Elenor cross, and the burial place of another queen. the importance of the Cecil family in English history is hard to overstate, and even the recently extinct Earls of Stamford had significant roles to play. • Keep for the above reasons. Rich  Farmbrough, 14:27, 30 December 2010 (UTC). reply
  • Keep well within scope of the portals namespace. The fact that it is incomplete is not a reason for deletion. - Atmoz ( talk) 23:03, 4 January 2011 (UTC) reply
  • Keep for now as this is a relatively new attempt at a portal and it is reasonable to allow a bit of time for it to be filled out. If it is still mostly redlinks a few months from now, I would support deletion or userfication at that time. -- RL0919 ( talk) 01:09, 7 January 2011 (UTC) reply
