Portal:Pebble Beach ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Pointless portal which conveys much less than the head article. Far too narrow a topic for a portal. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • ( contribs) 06:13, 24 September 2018 (UTC) reply

  • Keep – nominator is asking that we delete a portal start. In other words, a stub. How can a stub be expanded upon if you delete it? It's like saying, "if you don't create an article that is this large (arms stretched wide apart) from the outset, you can't have an article". That goes contrary to the entire philosophy of a wiki and wikimagic, where editors build upon the work of each other — and build upon their own work over time. Deletion disrupts those processes. The portals project is hard at work building and developing portals. Most of the work these days is done in batches. The portals that have been created so far are all slated for further batch development work, most of which is being done using AWB. An example of a feature to be added to many of these portals is a biography section. Look at my contributions over the past several months, and you will see that I have been improving portals by the dozens and even by the hundreds on a daily basis, and I am working on ALL of them. I will be making many more passes on the entire set of portals, improving them beyond their starting points. This will require just a little bit of patience. That being said, I've expanded the coverage of this portal, including adding a biography section, adding pictures to it's image slideshow, and have even added another image slideshow. Enjoy.    — The Transhumanist   07:22, 24 September 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Redirect to Portal:Monterey County, California. The topic is way too narrow to support a standalone portal. Even the top-level category Category:Pebble Beach, California contains just a dozen or so articles. The rest are bios with some tangential relation with the place. Some were born there, others died there, and some own a share of a golf course there. The narrowness of scope is also evidenced by the fact that the Selected content sections contain no Good Articles and only one Featured Article – Alan Shepard, whose career wasn't there but he died in Pebble Beach. There simply isn't a large enough base of articles to pool quality content from. –  Finnusertop ( talkcontribs) 08:27, 24 September 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Delete. The Transhumanist is making wonderful improvements to the portal namespace, my user boxes include the inclusionist badge and I wrote some of the code behind this page, so I write this with a heavy heart. The topic is simply too narrow for a portal. There are thousands of similar towns, and I don't even see merit in creating thousands of redirects from Portal:Anytown, Some County → Portal:Some County.
