Portal:Outer space

Portal:Outer space ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Redundant to Portal:Astronomy and Portal:Spaceflight, and has fewer pageviews than the Astronomy and Spaceflight portal. Therefore, delete this portal and move all of the selected articles and images to the respective portals. Soumya-8974 talk contribs subpages 09:37, 8 November 2020 (UTC) reply

  • Keep. No valid reason to delete, as opposed to archive or move. Therefore not an MfD matter. Instead, I recommend that you propose your action at Talk:Outer space, and if there is no objection, then carry it out. I think you need to be more specific with “move all of the selected articles and images to the respective portals”, move what to what portals? — SmokeyJoe ( talk) 10:23, 8 November 2020 (UTC) reply
What form of archiving is proposed? I'm concerned because the last closer who found a consensus to "archive" simply deleted the portal. ( Deletion should not be used for archiving a page.) Certes ( talk) 11:59, 9 November 2020 (UTC) reply
I could guess forms of archiving, I think this is a request to merge, or split&merge. It sounds like an wholesale restructure of all three. It might be a good idea, but it is not in scope for MfD. A failure to find consensus on a restructure should not put the top page on the edge of being deleted. — SmokeyJoe ( talk) 12:05, 9 November 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Comment. The subject area is broad. The portal has plenty of content, including 40 selected articles. It's regularly maintained: another month's events were added only yesterday. Lack of pageviews is unfortunate but not a reason to delete. Spaceflight is really a topic of its own. There is some overlap with Portal:Astronomy and there may be scope for a genuine merger if the maintainers of both portals feel this is the best way forward. I've mentioned the possibility at Portal talk:Astronomy and would like to see what others think before !voting. Certes ( talk) 11:59, 9 November 2020 (UTC) reply
Pinging Marshallsumter who maintains Portal:Astronomy. Certes ( talk) 10:33, 10 November 2020 (UTC) reply
The Outer space portal has some great potential based on the first line of its Introduction: "Outer space is the expanse that exists beyond Earth and between celestial bodies." but most of its Selected articles are focused on celestial bodies. I believe it would be better if it focused more on these expanses but most of these are not yet Featured articles. Perhaps if this portal focused more on these their quality could be improved? -- Marshallsumter ( talk) 16:36, 10 November 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Keep - I concur with SmokeyJoe that deletion is a poor path and it seems that Certes has started some gears in motion to determine if a merge may be appropriate. —  Godsy ( TALK CONT) 06:30, 10 November 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Keep and don't merge. I think this is a more than broad enough topic to support its own portal. UnitedStatesian ( talk) 03:04, 12 November 2020 (UTC) reply
