Portal:Lutheranism ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Neglected portal.

Six selected articles created in July 2008. Only one updated in April 2012 with possible original research.

Six selected biographies created in July 2008. Mark Hanson's (start-class article) term ended in October 2013, but this was only noted when the entry was finally updated in June 2015. Portal:Lutheranism/Selected biography/4 was last updated in March 2009. No other updates. Mark Schierbecker ( talk) 06:58, 31 August 2019 (UTC) reply

  • Note to closing admin. I don't want in any way to prejudge the outcome ... but if you close this discussion as delete, please can you not remove the backlinks? I have an AWB setup which allows me to easily replace them with links to the next most specific portal(s) (in this case Portal:Christianity), without creating duplicate entries. -- BrownHairedGirl (talk) • ( contribs) 15:59, 31 August 2019 (UTC) reply
  • Delete per the nom. This portal has been abandoned for over decade, save for a small questionable update in 2012, and is eight articles short of POG's minimum of 20. Since 2006, the lead of WP:POG has said "Do not expect other editors to maintain a portal you create" ... and this one has not been maintained by John Carter, who last updated it in March 2009 and has since been indefed for disruptive editing. It clearly fails WP:POG's requirement that portals should be about subjects broad enough to attract large numbers of readers and maintainers. This abandoned portal has had over a decade of no maintainers and it had a very low 21 views per day from January 1 to June 30 2019 (while the head article Lutheranism had 2,385 views per day in the same period).
POG also requires portals be associated with a Wikiproject, but Wikipedia:WikiProject Lutheranism is best described as dormant, and the only conversation to ever take place there about the portal was in 2008 between the portal's creator and another editor discussing how no one asked for this portal and it can and should be deleted. Portals stand or fall on their merits in the now, not what could someday hypothetically happen with them, and this one falls flat. I oppose re-creation, as over a decade of hard evidence shows Lutheranism is not a broad enough topic to attract readers or maintainers. Newshunter12 ( talk) 03:23, 1 September 2019 (UTC) reply

  • Delete as per Mark S and NH12. No maintenance, too few articles. The error illustrates the limitation of forked subpages. There is no short-term reason to expect that a re-creation of this portal will address the problems. Any proposed re-creation of this portal using a more modern design, and taking into account the failures of many portals, and including a maintenance plan (since lack of maintenance is a problem with most portals), can go to Deletion Review.

  • Delete per nominator and per NH12. Too narrow a topic, not maintained, low readership, which adds up to a clear fail of the WP:POG requirement that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers".
The lack of an active supporting WikiProject also fails the POG guidance that "the portal should be associated with a WikiProject (or have editors with sufficient interest) to help ensure a supply of new material for the portal and maintain the portal". -- BrownHairedGirl (talk) • ( contribs) 21:46, 6 September 2019 (UTC) reply
