Portal:Capital District

  • Delete. Abandoned Portal that does not meet notability guidelines for Portals. -- Alan Liefting ( talk) - 19:08, 2 April 2010 (UTC) reply
  • Comment. Support deleting ONLY if no one is willing to work on it anymore, hence it truly being abandoned. However!- oppose the reasoning being "does not meet notability guidelines for Portals", since one- havent seen any such guidelines; two- if there were/are it most definitely would meet them as it is a diverse but unified topic without alot of redlinks that would be put in it (something that is mentioned in Wikipedia:Portals and related guidelines), it has its own wikiproject, and there isnt anything inherent to the topic that would make it unable to be a portal. Hudson Valley has a portal last I checked and has a smaller population, less history, and less density when you minus out those parts that are also part of the NYCD. So I support a future portal and hope this deletion does not discourage nor does it become a precedent against a future endeavour. Camelbinky ( talk) 22:03, 2 April 2010 (UTC) reply
There is a guideline at Wikipedia:Portal/Guidelines. -- Alan Liefting ( talk) - 00:07, 3 April 2010 (UTC) reply
Already read that and as I mentioned- nothing in it mentions "notability" nor does anything in it preclude the NYCD from having a portal. If the Hudson Valley fits the definition of "notability" for a portal then it's not possible to say the NYCD does not as they are they are both regions of a state and if anything the NYCD is MORE notable as a geographic and historical region than the Hudson Valley. Please point to what specifically in that guideline (note not a policy) that you believe the NYCD does not meet. Also please show me where notability is mentioned, and how you think the NYCD does not meet any notability requirements. Camelbinky ( talk) 00:56, 3 April 2010 (UTC) reply
  • Do as you please I started this then never finished it. We will probably make it again in the future, but only if I can get some help on it. Though I agree with Camelbinky; if Hudson Valley has a portal, so can we. It will happen eventually, I just don't know when. Sorry for the inconvenience. upstate NYer 15:57, 3 April 2010 (UTC) reply
The Finger Lakes region of NY also has a portal as well. Camelbinky ( talk) 22:57, 3 April 2010 (UTC) reply
  • Comment: I'm still getting my feet wet learning behind the scenes stuff at wiki, but if you need some help on a Capital District portal I'd be willing to help. I grew up here. Still live here. Nacoran ( talk) 16:50, 8 April 2010 (UTC) reply

TenPound, I expect your support in my deletion request for the NYC portal, Hudson Valley portal, and the Finger Lakes portal as well then? If this 11 county region is too narrow then surely so is a portal on ONE city... If its population then HV and FL are smaller population-wise.... I think the 1 million+ people of New York's Capital District would be quite surprised to know they are in "too narrow focus" for a portal whereas these other places arent. Again- I'm in full support for deletion for the reason of "no interest", I just dont want such wording as "not notable" or "too narrow focus" to be used in the future against this portal WHEN this is resurrected and there is interest. • Userfy to User:UpstateNYer/Portal:Capital District per the creator's assertion that this portal will be completed eventually. Instead of deleting this page, the useful history should be saved in preparation for a future creation of such a portal. Cunard ( talk) 01:24, 14 April 2010 (UTC) reply

  • Comment: There's a notability guideline for portals? I've neither seen nor heard of one before now. I can't find any mention of it on WP:PORTAL or WP:N. Please provide links to this elusive guideline. ··· 日本穣 ? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:08, 15 April 2010 (UTC) reply
  • Userfy per other comments. There's no reason to toss the work already put into it if someone is willing to keep working on it. ··· 日本穣 ? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 08:12, 15 April 2010 (UTC) reply
    • If Juliancolton is willing to take it on and complete it enough for it to function properly, I'm changing my opinion to Keep. He's done well on the other two, so I trust him to do a good job here, too. ··· 日本穣 ? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:44, 15 April 2010 (UTC) reply
  • Please note the same editor who put this portal up for nomination has now put up both the Hudson Valley and Finger Lakes portals up for MfD as well for "not notable". Would have loved to see him put up the NYC portal as well though... Camelbinky ( talk) 12:17, 15 April 2010 (UTC) reply

  • Keep With many thanks to Juliancolton. I've been adding articles and biographies and will soon begin to work on photos and panoramas. Other NYCD regulars, feel free to add what you can (DYK, etc). upstate NYer 21:10, 16 April 2010 (UTC) reply
