  • Delete Never completed and untouched since 2009. I'd be happy to change my opinion if someone undertakes to update it. -- Klein zach 01:10, 17 November 2011 (UTC) reply

  • Keep. Premature. Portal creator Borgarde ( talk · contribs) is an active contributor. There has been zero prior attempt to address concerns or notify anyone at the portal's talk page or notify the portal creator prior to this sudden nomination. There has been no attempt to solicit input of relevant WikiProjects. Both WP:WikiProject Japan and WP:WikiProject Baseball would likely be interested in this portal, and yet nominator failed to attempt to gain input from Wikipedia community members involved in either of those projects. — Cirt ( talk) 04:09, 17 November 2011 (UTC) reply
  • Keep. It looks mostly complete, and would require just a little work to be fine. As Cirt mentioned, you shouldn't be bringing something here for deletion when all it really needs is to discuss the issue with the creator of the portal or perhaps bring it up at WP:BASEBALL or WP:JAPAN (or all three, even). ··· 日本穣 ? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 05:00, 17 November 2011 (UTC) reply
    • Since Ten Pound Hammer apparently thinks no one does any work to help improve things (based on his comments below), and since he apparently believes anyone who !votes "Keep" without doing anything is only a spammer, I've undertaken proven him completely incorrect by improving the portal. I've added a few more selected articles and biographies, and I've tweaked the layout a little bit to remove the one section which didn't have anything in it. I also added the related portals section since it hadn't been created yet. If anyone would like to help pick more selected pictures, a good place to start is here. Please post your recommended selections over at the Japanese baseball task force talk page so we can keep all the suggestions in one place. Perhaps we can get something done in less than 16 years. ··· 日本穣 ? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 01:09, 18 November 2011 (UTC) reply

  • Don't say "keep, it just needs work" unless a.) you plan to do the work yourself or b.) you plan to contact someone whom you know will do the work. I see this all the time. People spam an XFD with "keep but improve", but everyone expects everyone else to do the work, so nothing gets done and 16 years later, the portal's still incomplete. • AfD is not for cleanup. As our guidance states: "If the article can be fixed through normal editing, then it is not a candidate for AfD." And -- we are all volunteers here. I'm not sure we should be telling our colleagues that they are not allowed to indicate that they believe this meets our criteria for a keep, unless the colleague volunteer commits to doing anything at all. If an editor believes it is a "keep" under our rules, let's encourage them to give voice to their view. Not bludgeon them by asserting that they have some obligation, which they certainly don't have. I respect the desire to have fellow editors work on articles that need work, but don't think that AfDs or such assertions are the best way to get there.-- Epeefleche ( talk) 20:24, 17 November 2011 (UTC) reply
  • Speaking of spam, please don't post duplicate comments on the my talk page and here. I'm watching this page, and I don't need you spamming me on my talk page and accusing me of all sorts of blatantly false things. I don't spam. I do plenty of work around this place, and your comments are completely inappropriate and false. Please only post your comments here unless you have something completely different to say on my talk page. ··· 日本穣 ? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 22:19, 17 November 2011 (UTC) reply
