Portal:Agropedia

This portal was created in October 2005 and has been utterly neglected ever since. The Did you know section has had a single update of a single hook, and the other five hooks have been there for the entire four years. Since it was merged from Portal:Agronomy in May 2006, the showcase article has been rotated once, in March 2008. The showcase picture has never been rotated. All recent edits are drive-by minor fixes.

As I understand it, the Portals are pointless if they aren't kept fresh. Portals that just sit there and moulder are worse than useless, because they present a stale, out-of-date and potentially misleading access point to our readers.

I don't know what the standard procedure is for stale portals—whether they get deleted or blanked or redirected or marked historical. But surely something has to be done here. -- Hesperian 00:42, 15 September 2009 (UTC) reply

  • Keep I don't know either what the standard procedure is, if any. Or if there is even a single precedent. But I don't think deleting it helps the encyclopedia. What harm is there to just let it sit? I disagree that portals are pointless unless kept fresh. They are meant for readers and any reader first coming upon this page wouldn't know that it hasn't been updated in a while. It's not like Portal: Current events which obviously needs continual updating. I don't see anything out-of-date here except for maybe the Topic News section. Deleting this portal would be throwing the baby out with the bathwater. -- œ 03:33, 15 September 2009 (UTC) reply

  • Keep but I don't like the name. Agropedia implies that it's some kind of project in its own right. Suggest moving over redirect to Portal:Agriculture. Gigs ( talk) 17:21, 16 September 2009 (UTC) reply

  • Keep and Move I have saved the page! (all the while thinking that this was an old discussion) It is active again. Lets move it to Portal:Agriculture. Is there a way to move its subpages with it in one operation? Arlen22 17:55, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
  • Do Not Move(Move after all Arlen22 23:23, 19 September 2009 (UTC)) Actually, it is about Agronomy and Agriculture. Hence the name. Arlen22 17:57, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
  • Thanks for updating the portal, but I still think it should be moved. Gigs ( talk) 23:40, 17 September 2009 (UTC) reply
  • Admins can move all subpages in one operation. Cenarium ( talk) 20:48, 18 September 2009 (UTC) reply
