Opening Access to SF: City Tech Science Fiction Edit-a-thon 2021
Dates: Monday, December 6 to Friday, December 10 at midnight (asynchronous, online)
The 6th Annual City Tech Science Fiction Symposium, organized by the archivists of CUNY's New York City College of Technology, commemorates the growing City Tech Science Fiction Collection. In the spirit of the 2021 conference theme of open access, the keynote presenters and Wikipedians (Mozucat and Doctorxgc) have asked that online participants take an active role in increasing access to science fiction and science fiction scholarship to the world. Wikipedia is a noncommercial, open access place where readers might learn about paywalled scholarly content from those with academic library database privileges.

Your mission: During the second week of December, we ask you to edit the content of a Wikipedia entry for your favorite SF author; add a citation to a scholarly work to the entry of one of their novels; add information about the archives or special collections; or choose a quote from a writer's work to illustrate a theme (see: a quote added by students to Butler's Kindred here).
We also welcome and encourage translations of existing articles or additions of needed Wikidata.
But how? Perhaps you have some information that could improve an already established SF article. [1] Or you recently stumbled on an SF article that could use some copyediting. [2] Or you visited Wikipedia only to find that your beloved SF author/text has no article yet. [3] If so,
Be bold! Join us in making one change, large or small, to “the encyclopedia that anyone can edit.” Here are two short videos explaining how to create a Wikipedia account (not a requirement to edit Wikipedia) and how to edit Wikipedia (it’s easy!):
