The purpose of the edit-a-thon is to edit and enhance existing Wikipedia entries related to feminism and art history. Possible categories include women artists, art history, gender studies, women and the arts, and feminism and the arts. Using a variety of library resources (i.e. books, online databases, and special collections and archives), participants will not only learn how to update Wikipedia, but they will take away fundamental research skills and a greater knowledge of how to use primary sources for their own research. For the purpose of Wikipedia, primary sources are considered to be those that are published for general access, such as books, newspaper articles, finding aids or webpages. The edit-a-thon is targeted towards those who have an interest in feminism as it relates to art history, as well as a desire to learn more about the ins and outs of Wikipedia. Those with previous Wikipedia editing experience are also welcome.
