The UIUC Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon is hosted by Ricker Library and will take place in the Architecture Building (Rooms 102 A&B) on March 4, 2017. The event is open to student, faculty and the public. As this event page is a work in progress -- please check back for more information. Also feel free to contribute links to resources, ideas for new articles or articles to be improved. Be sure to log in before editing.
Please join us for a fun event that brings together diverse communities to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to women in the arts--art, architecture, design, landscape architecture and related fields. Despite its wide reach, Wikipedia suffers from a severe gender imbalance: since most editors are men, articles conform to men's interests and perspectives. In an effort to change this, we are gathering a diverse group together to celebrate women's cultural achievements.
We will provide tutorials for Wikipedia newcomers, reference materials, and snacks. Bring your laptop, power cord, and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. Stop by for a little bit or stay for the whole afternoon. No Wikipedia editing experience necessary!
If you are unfamiliar with Wikipedia, you might try this training module which will help explain a lot of things, including how to add your signature (by the way, signatures are created by saving four tildes [~] in a row).
Below is a list of articles that would benefit from edits and expansion during the edit-a-thon.
