Image of a modern bookcover used to illustrate an eighteenth century novel. All of Sir Walter Scott's works have been used as the inspiration for numerous artworks, plays, and so on, and surely SOME free material exists!

Most book covers for this novel either do not contain an applicable or recognizable image (scenery or author's face) or are still covered under copyright laws. Several free paintings exist.

Comment this is clearly a very old picture, and the source indicated is PRC. If this is so, then this picture should predate IP laws in China, which IIRC, were non-existant when Mao was alive. So everything would be PD, regardless of what US laws are concerning when copyrights expire, since it never had been copyrighted in the first place.

Fails
WP:NFCC #1and #8. The image is compilation photo of bags of pet food bags taken from the producer's website. It fails #1 in that the purpose of use stated in the fair use rationale is " Graphic displays part of the range of product produced by Natural Balance" which could be fulfilled with a free picture of the pet food itself instead of the copyrighted bags. It fails #8 in that the image does not provide any additional information about the range of product produced than the text of the article does.
