I have zero idea how much you can improve something but I find this photo so arresting and I have heard tell of "restoration" and I wonder if it could be examined for that. It's a photo of three men who were kidnapped into slavery somewhere in the Congo basin and illegally transported to the U.S in 1858. This photo was taken for an anthropology journal article published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their forced arrival. The journal article is open access so I can upload the original PDF somewhere if it helps. I already cropped out the caption but their names are Ward Lee, Tucker Henderson, and Romeo—born Cilucängy, Pucka Gaeta, and Tahro. Thanks in advance for anything you can do. --

U.S. Marshal's sale of slaves, The New Orleans Crescent, March 2, 1850
Stitched
Blurred
I would like take the top of the right-hand column (up to where it transitions to French) and cut and paste it at the bottom of the first column, in whatever way seems orderly. This clipping appears on
list of largest slave sales in the United States and I don't want to mislead anyone glancing at it that the French stuff is a continuation rather than a repetition. Thanks as always.

{{resolved}} Oh thank you so much @
Pbrks! That's wonderful--I love options. I'm also working on a bio of the guy whose plantations were being sold (
User:Jengod/LaPice) so I'm just going to have write it long enough to match the size of the stitched one 😝 . I'm going to put the blurred one on the slave sales page for now. I do everything on my phone and have never figured out any image apps that do anything on there so I'm so grateful to have this resource. Appreciate you.

Please crop to head (hopefully the black label on the wall can be cut, too), as well as tighter on shoulders and to up from bottom to the middle of the jacket. Moreover, generally, improve the image quality (if possible). Thanks a lot! ~ Silence of Järvenpää 00:24, 29 September 2023 (UTC)reply
Thank you!!! Could you please crop just a bit more on the right side, such that the background space on the left and right sides is about equal. Warmly, ~ Silence of Järvenpää 13:42, 29 September 2023 (UTC)reply
Colours as rendered by Windows (top), Edge/Chrome (centre), Firefox (bottom)
Request
This has been an issue with images from this source for a long time, but I haven't looked into it. Can someone help explain why the photo's colours are being rendered incorrectly and differently in Edge/Chrome and Firefox? Is there an easy way to batch-process them to fix the issue? --

Paul 012: The issue was the
color space, which was "uncalibrated". I've set it to sRBG, which all browsers will render the same. –

Thanks. Your edit seems to have reduced the image size quite a bit though (with small but noticeable loss of quality in the sky's shading). Maybe I should look into command-line editing tools to see if there's one that can handle this losslessly. Or perhaps if someone operates a bot that can cover such things. --

Here, do you mean compression quality? I have upped the quality to its maximum, but I'm not sure if there is a way to convert the color profile of a jpg without some loss. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me on the subject can say for sure. –

Yes, I was referring to the compression quality. I'm thinking that if the issue is due to incorrect colour-space declaration, surely there must be a way to correct that without affecting the actual pixels. I guess I'll have to ask around, maybe on Commons, for further input. --

Please crop some of the excess white space on the sides of image 1 (I cut it a bit too wide for what I'm trying to do with it) and save it over the original file. Please also combine images 2 and 3 vertically into one file such that image 2 is above image 3 and, thus, they thus be used in a multiple image template as the left panel with a another, longer image as the right panel. I also wouldn't say nay to having image 3's colors brightened a bit. THANKS! ~ Silence of Järvenpää 13:00, 6 October 2023 (UTC)reply

Done I have slightly improved the contrast. I smoothed out the image structure. Unfortunately the original has low contrast and is poor in detail which is unlikely to achieve a better result. You can always restore the previous version.
