  • This fails WP:NFCCP #1 both now, as a free equivalent exists, and before, as a free equivalent could have been created. Ed  [talk]  [OMT] 18:09, 22 December 2023 (UTC) reply

The article contains many public domain images of the subject. While I appreciate that this photo is mentioned specifically in the article, we do not need it to show what he looked like, which is how it is currently used. Note also that the rationale is incomplete. Josh Milburn ( talk) 16:42, 22 December 2023 (UTC) reply

  • This appears to clearly fail WP:NFCCP #1 and #8. In particular, there are color photographs of the subject used in the article that do a better job of visually demonstrating the subject's appearance and supporting the text at Fred Trump#Physical appearance. Ed  [talk]  [OMT] 18:07, 22 December 2023 (UTC) reply
Although the pro-deletion arguments are obviously in good faith, in fact the image doesn't serve the baseline purpose of identification (almost as if it the matter was forensic). WP commonly provides sourced, balanced commentary on subjective topics, e.g. individuals' personalities in a Personal life section (or subsection). Understanding the slight nuance of this, the image satisfies NFCCP #1 and #8; being replaced with a newspaper portrait would force the removal of the valuable text commentary discussing the specific photograph.
I don't know what's missing from the rationale except for being approved by an administrator or a "patroller". UpdateNerd ( talk) 07:12, 23 December 2023 (UTC) reply
I appreciate the response. To me, that one person wrote a sentence about a specific photograph is usually not enough to justify including the photo. We're not talking about critical commentary on a piece of art, after all! And in this case, photos like File:Fred Trump in the 1980s (cropped2).jpg do a better job of portraying the subject. We could instead link out to the McDarrah photo using {{ external media}}? Ed  [talk]  [OMT] 21:05, 23 December 2023 (UTC) reply

This non-free BBC-produced promotional poster has been removed from Doctor Who (series 14) because the image does not explicitly promote the upcoming TV series with a textual release date. I've never seen that view expressed in policy, although I could have missed it. To me, an image of a TV show's main character, one that the entire show is named after, that was created/released to promote the upcoming TV season meets the NFUR criteria for use in the article linked above. Related discussion on the article's talk page has gone nowhere, so I've brought it here to discuss. Ed  [talk]  [OMT] 18:03, 22 December 2023 (UTC) reply

I wouldn't use this in Doctor Who (series 14) as it's a depiction of the character, rather than (e.g.) artwork for a box set, a thumbnail for the season on a streaming service, or a promotional poster for one of the episodes. I'd expect to see something representative of the Doctor and companion(s) and at least some of the episodes in the series. If nothing exists yet then we can wait. — Bilorv ( talk) 19:11, 25 December 2023 (UTC) reply
