I originally PRODded the screenshot of Haddaway in the " What Is Love" music video as "fail[ing] WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC8". The uploader de-prodded it, so I'm taking this to FFD here. First, (almost?) no sources substantially covering the music video have been found. Second, the screenshot depicting just the singer is unnecessary and would be replaceable by free existing images of the singer. Third, the singer appears both in the screenshot and the single release cover, making the screenshot less likely to be significantly different from the single cover, despite both being different media. Fourth, the article itself currently don't contain substantial critical commentary associated with the image. I welcome disagreements. George Ho ( talk) 02:45, 23 February 2020 (UTC) reply

As fair use is meant to be minimal ( WP:NFCC#3), this copyrighted cover art does not pass the threshold for inclusion. It's included on the article for Eminem's album Music to Be Murdered By since one of the alternative covers of the album was inspired by this piece. However, the album as a whole is inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's work, noted through the inclusion of spoken samples by the director himself. A free image of Hitchcock could convey the same purpose of this cover art, and there isn't enough critical analysis at the time to merit the inclusion of this 1958 cover art on an article for a 2020 album. At the moment, the article only has two sentences about connecting this image to the album's explicit cover. I think one could argue that fair use here is minimal and is used for educational purposes and not commercially. A picture of Alfred Hitchcock without reference to this picture would not convey the same purpose of this cover art in the slightest. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.238.252.111 ( talk) 04:15, 24 January 2020 (UTC) reply
Alfred Hitchcock's influence goes beyond the replication of this 1958 album. There's not enough commentary in the article to merit inclusion. The alternative cover has also been proposed for deletion for going against Template:Infobox_album#Template:Extra_album_cover and WP:NFCC#3. Absolutely. There is considerable information that would be lost with the deletion of this image. Keep. XeroxKleenex ( talk) 09:02, 25 January 2020 (UTC) reply

  • Keep - Whether critical commentary for the Hitchcock image is sufficient is one thing, but then I realize that reliable source should confirm the similarities in order to avoid original research. Now there is sufficient commentary related to the Hitchcock image, so the "original research" is averted. You need proof that deleting the Hitchcock image is not "detrimental to that understanding". However, due to sources confirming the similarities and origin of image concept, I believe that deleting the Alfred image would force readers to either re-upload the image or seek elsewhere to compare the Alfred and Eminem images simultaneously. Also, I don't see how Alfred holding an axe and Eminem (or some guy) holding an axe and a gun "can convey equivalent significant information", i.e. are identical to or equivalent to each other. Alfred and Eminem are different people, and even holding an axe doesn't make the info equally similar especially in regards to origins. Moreover, the Alfred image is the past, and Eminem one more recent. The decades-gap is very substantial enough to differentiate two images from each other.
