Non-free logo being used in The Citadel Bulldogs, The Citadel Bulldogs baseball, The Citadel Bulldogs basketball, The Citadel Bulldogs football, The Citadel Bulldogs wrestling. File has a non-free use rationale for each usage, but only the one for "The Citadel Bulldogs" seems valid. Previous FFD discussion such about the usage of similar logos have come to the consensus that the use of such a logo in the main article about a university's generally considered NFCC compliant because it is assumed that this is where any sourced contextual discussion of the mascot logo is likely to be found. Usage in individual team articles, however, has not typically been considered OK because the logo just tend to be used decoratively in the infobox with no specific discussion of it the article. WP:NFCC#3 has been cited as well due to Number 17 of WP:NFC#UUI, with the "parent entity" being the athletic department and the "child entity" being the individual team. A freely licensed file such as File:The Citadel Wordmark.png or File:Citadel Athletics Script.jpg could be used or even possibly the "C" shown here could be uploaded and used; team-specific logos can also be used if they exist. Suggest keep for the article about the athletic department and remove from the individual team logos, unless it is possible that this image is old enough to qualify for public domain or it can be shown to have been freely licensed by the copyright holder. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 04:47, 27 May 2016 (UTC) reply

Invalid public domain reason. The copyright in the United Kingdom expires 70 years after the death of the photographer or 70 years after publication if the photographer is anonymous. In the United States, the copyright expires 95 years after the photo was published. The photo is apparently from 1947, so it is currently copyrighted in both countries. -- Stefan2 ( talk) 15:04, 27 May 2016 (UTC) reply

The photograph appears in "Bradford 1847-1947". The forward includes the following "This book has been produced by the Yorkshire Observer and presented free of cost to the Lord Mayor and the Bradford City Council to mark the Centenary of the granting of the Charter of Incorporation by Queen Victoria in 1847". Nowhere is copyright claimed, reserved or even mentioned. No authors or photographers are named. The Yorkshire Observer went into liquidation in 1950. There was no successor newspaper. The sensible interpretation is that the Yorkshire Observer intended the contents to be "public domain". If you think the YO retained copyright while not claiming it there has been no legal owner since 1950. If you think copyright passed to Bradford City Council then as a local authority copyright it lapsed after 50 years.(1997) Whichever interpretation you prefer the copyright has been ownerless for many years and the photo is public domain. I am the uploader. I am one of the three children in the photo. The others are my sister and our neighbour Joshua. My mother took the photo (1950) but cannot email her assent to publication as she died many years before email and the internet were invented. I went ahead and added the rationale, but the infobox used in 2009–10 Cleveland Cavaliers season has neither a logo nor an image parameter to avoid decorative use, and I don't have the experience to do more.
