Fails WP:NFCC #1 and 8. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is in the public domain (as would be about the first thirty years of its publication history), so it doesn't make sense to use this cover from a later, non-free edition. Particularly not when that edition (an adapted, illustrated version) is not even mentioned in the article and there's no indication it's of particular historical importance. postdlf ( talk) 02:29, 6 February 2014 (UTC) reply

Dubious claim that the image isn't replaceable. Fails WP:NFCC#8 in two articles and WP:NFCC#10c in one. Stefan2 ( talk) 14:52, 6 February 2014 (UTC) reply

This is a video screenshot of rare footage depicting the former South Vietnamese Olympic team which no longer exists (ceased existence since 1975). Having this photo is crucial in depicting the Team visually, as it illustrated how Vietnam was represented at the Olympic Games before 1975 (before Vietnamese unification of communist North with capitalist South) and before the international diplomatic shift towards recognizing communist countries, such as China (instead of Taiwan), which the IOC followed suit. As well, it showed how the Team appeared when it existed. A simple web engine search shows absolutely NO relevant results on South Vietnam Olympics (other than the 1 result leading to this Wikipedia file itself), because this is an historical team, not a currently-existent team. Rationale for usage is same for both articles. Magicloveisintheair ( talk) 07:33, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply
There is no sourced critical discussion of the image in any of the articles in which it is used. See WP:NFCC#8. It also fails WP:NFCC#10c in two articles. -- Stefan2 ( talk) 16:21, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply
The image doesn't give any relevant information other than "they were there" at the opening ceremony Parade of Nations. It's just a man in a suit walking on a track with a flag behind a woman carrying a sign that says "Vietnam". postdlf ( talk) 16:39, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply
Yes, the "Vietnam" sign and flag, represents the IOC's sole recognition of South Vietnam ( Republic of Vietnam) as the sole legitimate representative of Vietnam at the time, not recognizing communist North Vietnam. This is reminiscent to how Taiwan (Republic of China) was recognized as the sole rep for China (not the communist People's Republic of China), and South Korea (Republic of Korea) instead of both North and South, at the IOC and other international bodies like the UN, before the international shift of diplomacy towards recognizing communist countries, and this photo is Vietnam's example of this. Of course there's little discussion on anything in each of the articles, because few editors edit it. And how can using this Olympic photo in Vietnam at the 1972 Summer Olympics and Vietnam at the Olympics a failure in NFCC 10 anyways? Magicloveisintheair ( talk) 17:48, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply
For the reasons already given. The information for which you're using the picture is easily communicated by text alone, and seeing a picture of them in the Parade of Nations doesn't significantly increase a reader's understanding of that fact. So it fails WP:NFCC#1 and WP:NFCC#8. postdlf ( talk) 17:53, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply
It would need proof though. This photo helps fulfill that as a source. This photo definitely doesn't fail NFCC 1, see my first comment on its rarity and about South Vietnam Olympics having absolutely no image results. Could you please offer suggestions on how I can address the issues at hand? Magicloveisintheair ( talk) 18:30, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply
The proof for their participation in 1972 would come from a citation to a reliable written source, and obviously there's going to be no shortage of that for such a big event as the Olympics. The image really adds nothing to that, particularly as you can't even tell when or where it was taken just from looking at it, nor does it tell us anything about what entity is marching under the banner of "Vietnam" (only that someone is). There are no ways to fix these issues for this particular image in order to make its use comply with non-free content policy. postdlf ( talk) 18:42, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply
Regular web engine search only provides 2 websites saying what South Vietnam's medal results were and that's it. 2 websites and everything else is irrelevant. Where can I get sources when I add this international diplomacy item??? Magicloveisintheair ( talk) 18:52, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply
For example, newspapers tend to write a lot of stuff about the Olympics. Try looking at 1972 newspapers. -- Stefan2 ( talk) 19:07, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply
This image doesn't give the medal results, so what would that matter? All you're really proving is that your research skills need some work. Start with the sources listed at 1972 Summer Olympics medal table. And not just the online ones, though the full medal count from Munich (if that's what you're honestly interested in) is readily available at the official Olympic website. postdlf ( talk) 21:17, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply

Dubious claim that the image isn't replaceable. All photos of the guy which were taken during his lifetime should be in the public domain in his country of residence. If they were additionally published during his lifetime, then the pictures should be in the public domain in the US too. Stefan2 ( talk) 21:36, 6 February 2014 (UTC) reply

It's an old picture, already posted in the Italian version of Wikipedia. I have nothing else to add. Mgvongoeden ( talk) 16:06, 7 February 2014 (UTC) reply

Claimed to be both copyrighted and in the public domain at the same time. If copyrighted, then it fails WP:NFC#UUI §7. Stefan2 ( talk) 22:01, 6 February 2014 (UTC) reply

Thanks, I'll update it with correct tags for public domain etc. as published in papers in 1926. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SteamWiki ( talkcontribs) 15:18, 9 February 2014 (UTC) reply
