This is a fine example of an early Korean teuroteu (trot). One of the basic styles of popular music in South Korea, it went into disfavour for a few decades due to perceived Japanese connections (Korea was invaded by Japan in WWII), but is regaining popularity now.
As far as I can tell, we have no other examples of free-use Korean music. Indeed, the free licence on this is only possible because everyone involved with it - singer, lyricist, and composer - died tragically young, the singer at just 25 years old, and the composer and lyricist in their early forties. I think it's clear from this that all three were very talented people.
The information page has been filled out by investigative work by me, Filll, Caspian blue, and a few people that I don't believe have Wikipedia accounts [Filll - can you add some details here? You organised that part].
This song is used in
Music of South Korea and
Teuroteu.
Archived copyright discussion, long story short, it's in the public domain in America, Korea, and anywhere that uses the rule of the shorter term. |
